My trip through Hepatitis C (HCV) Treatment |
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
In the early 1970's I had a miscarriage that caused heavy bleeding. I was given a couple of units of blood. Shortly thereafter, I got Hepatitis. HCV had not been discovered at that time and I was put in the hospital, everyone in my family given shots, and then I was sent home. From that point on I had little or no energy. I would go in spells with some weeks/months worse than others. An odd set of events occurred when I found a lump in my breast in January 2002. The surgeon suggested that I be tested to see what kind of Hepatitis I had. The test was done in late February and I went on with my life. In April 2002, I was privileged to go to London to train in our London office. I am a software trainer in a law firm. When I arrived home, my husband picked me up at the airport and before we got home he blurted out the news that I had HCV and what that meant. |

I was clueless and over the last 5 months have slowly learned more and more about it. It's official, my doctor, Bruce Sand, is a jerk. He has no bedside manner. He is putting me on the new PEG-Intron/ribavirin treatment. I understand it is no walk in the park to go through and this journal is to chronicle my trip. Today is October 2, 2002. I should start treatment by the end of next week. I'm scared. Sandi |
