Ideas for a new economy:  potential users tool kit

In the ‘info-’ age people work & live in new ways: in ‘technopoles/eco-villages’.
Info --> knowledge --> wisdom?

Work may involve fast mass transit but not 5 days a week.  Both work & travel time should drop and free time grow. Work shifts from central office/work place to neighbour-hood-community centred spaces: autonomous, but interlink--ed & globally reaching.  Can this dissolve boundaries bet-ween 1st & 3rd/4th world, suburbs & metro-centres, city & country, or central & remote regions?

Potentials include:- .

Telework – 3 phases: fragmentation of corporate workspace -‘telecommuting’; dispersion & self contract /management -‘teleworking’; diffusion into ‘on-line communities’ – ‘networkers’ (Qvortrup ‘telework: visions,definitions, realities, barriers’ OECD 1992).

 Telecentres – communal workplaces for employees, contractors & ‘start-ups’ in neighbourhoods/suburbs/ towns/villages –‘ from corporation to community’.

Industry ecosystems, zero emission principles and resource productivity concepts (Cote, Pauli, Lovins)

Cluster development in rural, town, urban context using land use & energy design principles with integration of work/life space and activity.

 High performance principles, community builders & cooperative organizational forms to develop capability & standards.

Use of acts & agencies to direct change – eg sustainable energy development, community land devp’t, environ-mental planning; employment & resource development
