U.S. religious group calls for ‘free time / free people’ campaign

U.S. Jewish organization, the Shalom Centre has called on political, economic and cultural leaders to reduce hours of work imposed on people without reducing their income; to strongly encourage use of more free time in service of the family, community and spiritual growth; and to make work sacred by securing full employment in jobs with decent income, healthcare, dignity and self-direction.

It asks religious communities to reach out to labour, environmental, women’s and community organisati-  -ons to secure these changes.

It states that at the root of our religious and spiritual traditions is a critique of the idolatries of profiting, producing and consuming (see www.shalomctr.org ).
