Over the past decade the League Alliance has began to show weakness in the Pioneer Senate. Corruption has effected many of their Senators and the alliance itself has broke apart into various factions all seeking political control over the system.
Many years ago the Alliance drove away the last invaders that threatened them. Nevertheless they maintained a small army for tradition and defence.
The Grand Army employs more traditional weaponry which is no match to the technology of the Establishment or Confederate armies.
Soldiers are inexperienced, in fact many have never taken place in combat and have only heard stories of combat from past wars.
Their seat in the senate is represented by Senator Ryyder, who is highly held among the senate. Endless patience has been Ryyder's key to success. Ryyder is one of only a handful senators that appears to have not been affected by the corruption and betrayal that the senate has become.
The Alliance is home to some 7000 different species of lifeforms, making them the most diverse system in the galaxy. However this diversity pays a price in racial differences causing civil conflict amongst many of the tribes on their home planet of Passel.
For centuries a civil war has plagued the system. Many tribes feel they are not fairly represented and others think that the ideals of the human race have come to the foreground ahead of their own.
The formation of the Grand Army was to bring together all species. It was created so that all could serve for their system and defend their planet in case of an attack. This plan appeared to work, but with more and more corruption, it was bringing the Alliance to it's knees.
The Army formed with a major infantry, that comprised of a mere 20,000 soldiers. Each carried a standard issue blaster, that was rather unreliable. Many soldiers opted to carrie a sabre into battle. Each soldier carried a shield that could deflect any blaster shot.
The Air Corps were non existant and were no match even for a squadron of Garth Fighters. Although dedicated to their machines the Air Corps prove no resistance.
The Alliance was defeated in the early stages of the Pioneer Wars, and the survivors either gave into Sanitarium's control or joined together with Princess Lilo in the Rebel Resistance Movement.
The Alliance disappeared when the Republic was restored. Although their history remains, the Alliance founded into the Confederacy or smaller regional governments separate from the new Republic.
However small the League Alliance makes up for numerical disadvantage in their resolve and makes them a fierce opponent as their history suggested. |
