Tea at Bag-end

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say...

PARTY
in the
SHIRE

THE BAGGINS clan, an old and respected family of Middle-earth Hobbits, live in the Shire, and around the Hobbiton region of the Westfarthing. Right, Gandalf the Grey calls on an old friend at Bag End. Hobbit holes on Bag Shot Row are typically nestled in the hillside as are the homes of all halflings living in Hobbiton.

In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort.

It had a perfectly round door like a porthole, painted green, with a shiny yellow brass knob in the exact middle. The door opened on to a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel: A very comfortable tunnel without smoke, with paneled walls and floor tiled and carpeted, provide with polished chairs, and lots and lots of pegs for hats and coats- the hobbit was fond of visitors. The tunnel wound on and on, going fairly but not quite straight in to the side of the hill-The Hill, as many people for miles around called it-and many little round doors opened out of it, first on one side then on aother. No going upstairs for the hobbit: bedrooms, bathrooms, cellars, pantries (lots of these), wardrobes (he had whole rooms devoted to clothes), kitchens, dining-rooms, all were on the same floor, indeed on the same passege. The best rooms were all on the left-hand side (going in), for these were the only ones to have windows, deep-set round windows looking over his garden, and meadows beyond, sloping down to the river.

DOWSER NOTE ~ The race of Hobbits live in a perpetual Summer mindset, evident because of the overwhelming love of all things that grow in their garden. The 'abundant time' of year provides an atmosphere of fairness, amusement, and an all-pervading harmony with the rest of Middle-earth. The most obvious symbol associated with the race of Hobbits is the circle, found everywhere in the architecture, pathways, and fashion. The dance at the big birthday party resembles the traditional May Pole festival that twists around in a circular pattern, with Hobbits spinning and turning round the center of the dance floor. By extension, the spiral, arching twirls of the labyrinth may be suggested, as in Lothlorien. These ideas suggest Hobbits are aware of the present as it relates to the past. Hobbit women often sew a circular design into their clothes, over the heart chackra, to suggest a sense of life that mirrors what is real. The psyche links with the consciousness in the round, oval, and arc symbols.

A Hobbit residence is often called a Hobbit hole. The look is akin to an interior blueprint of a bee hive, an ancient earth ship mode we find in old initiation caves, and sacred underground security burrow-chambers in Europe, especially the UK. [When the Roman army occupied Britain they used similar subterranean tunnel-rooms for grain storage, so they could feed their horses during the military campaign.] There is a possible relationship with traffic circuitry preferred by infamous rabbits, especially the White variety. Should the Hobbit you are looking for open the front door though, you discover there is a big difference. A Hobbit at teatime, or perhaps Second Breakfast, will prove much more pleasant company than the Mad Hatter at his "off-the-hinges" tea party attended by Alice.

MOONCHILD, THE CRAB
(The Cancerean)

THE SOVERIGN, THE EMPEROR, OSIRIS, THE KING appears holding symbols of power, regenerative ability, and order, portrayed within black-gold akasha, in the European representation of Tarot Trump IV. Since the black-gold akasha force in cosmic symbols suggests the fifth element system, most western readers find difficulty when commanding Trump IV intellect/patterns. Click Trump for article.] This sign was once symbolized by the scarab in Ancient Egypt, the symbol of life renewing itsself continually. The Ancient Greeks sometimes saw this power of tenacity (to hold onto life) as a pair of tongs. The ray suggests the ability to adapt to the energy fields of the immediate environment. Natives value domestic peace and tranquillity almost above all else. They represent the power of the superconscious mind to re-emerge into at-one-ment with the Absolute (this occurs in a deep sleep state when return to the cosmic consciousness brings about a feeling of complete security for all of us at night when in the deepest sleep mode.)

The Good and Bad News About Moonchild
This quiet, reserved sign was once symbolized by very different symbols than those we know now. The ancient scarab from Egypt, symbol of life renewing itself continually, is similar to the shellfish or tortoise, because of protective armor common to all. The subtle body symbol was a defender of the physical temple [during formation] and we have lost this reference entirely. The Ancient Greeks sometimes saw the tenacity (to hold onto life) as a pair of tongs. Today, popular symbols for the Moon?s sign are the crab, tortoise and shellfish, suggesting the sign as adaptive to the immediate environment and a shifting energy field. Natives value domestic peace, the positive and tranquil mood, and an inclusive cosmic factor. The good news about Moonchildren is their capacity to provide a nurturing, secure home life for family and guests in their home. Hyper-sensitive to betrayal and abandonment themes, they consider spiritual and physical nourishment in their family unit equally vital. Excellent caterers, hosts and hostesses, the native is renown for vittles selection, preparation and service. Moonchildren are often vulnerable due to their desire to provide security [parent] and kindness, and make frequent sacrifices for the benefit of those they love. The word agape (from the Greeks, meaning ?love feast?) encompasses the motivations of the Lunar type... there is always room for one more at the table. The good news about the sign of the Summer Solstice is clan unity power. Teaching order and graceful compliance with Nature?s law comes easily. Just as the Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, so too Moonchildren may tend to move too slowly because there always seems to be plenty of time. Natives seldom stray off track, yet tend to advance toward the goal by an indirect route - difficult to trace at times. The patriots of 1776 chose the Moon's sign for the first birthday of United States since lunar themes imply continued rebirth and so can help recovery in any support system of the country.

IN THE HOUSE SYSTEM,
Moonchild works best in the Dining Room or area of the house where the 'family table' is found. This ray rules the breasts, some of the subtle bodies, and stomach as the sign of nourishment, defense, and the hunt. In the Tarot Deck, this vibration is personified by the chief as THE SOVERIGN, THE EMPEROR, THE KING, OSIRIS, as the provider of both spiritual and physical nourishment for the family. The reference to the 'internal parent' links the card to Trump V [Sun reference] as the child in preparation for departure from the nest of origin.

The Dining Room is the symbol of the family within the home as they meet to form a unit; it is the idea of the clan, family ties, hereditary background and roots of the country of birth. There is a spiritual as well as a patriotic flavor to this powerful card which is frequently associated with The Last Supper and The Pascal Feast. By extension there are many references to King Arthur and his Knights of The Round Table.

Notes: People like Mimi Farina, [Sun in the sign of The Winged Bull, Taurus, fixed earth Kerub] - capable organizers, managers, and community group coordinators - gather 'mini clan' collectives that succeed in establishing an 'alternative nest' situation for folks. There is a well documented record that verifies the Moon and Venus, rulers of Moonchild/Cancer and Taurus, often provide prosperity for financial investors so ventures are "win-win." Lunar themes include the pattern of birth, death, and rebirth as anatomical cycles move with the Moon. The two lights as the "twins" [see Delos Oracle] were popular success symbols in ancient mythology. The ancients considered the intelligence of the planet Jupiter, Moon, and the Sun the immortals responsible for supervision of the law that governs all the weather cycles. The great triad composed of Leto, Artemis [Moon], and Apollo [Sun] ruled the eclipse cycle, especially alluded to in the works by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Four years after, Frodo at the 'mystic window'

Right, Frodo on drums, an ancient musical instrument used to open the way to the subtle realm, aeythers, and the underworld. Is it coincidental Frodo would be playing the drum this 'birth day' night? His matter-of-fact life is going to transformed just a short while after this festive dance!

RIVENDELL
FRODO RECOVERS FROM A WOUND INFLICTED BY THE WITCH KING AT THE ANCIENT WEATHER HILLS OUTLOOK, WEATHERTOP.
BILBO GIVES FRODO HIS SHORT SWORD, STING, AND
A MITHRIL SHIRT ON THE EVENT OF FRODO'S HEALING IN THE HOUSE OF LORD ELROND IN RIVENDELL. Both were part of Bilbo's 'plunder' from his earlier adventure with Gandalf the Grey in, THE HOBBIT. The enchanted leaf blade design, probably developed by Elves in the First Age, would bring the weight of the weapon forward towards the point, making it an excellent slashing weapon in close quarters.

Dowser at the party of special magnificence

STING is the name of the long knife made in the city of Gondolin between I 126 and I 510, used as a sword by Bilbo and his heir, Frodo, and briefly by Sam. Found in the troll-cave with Glamdring and Orcrist, Sting was probably forged in Gondolin for the Goblin-wars. It was taken from the cave by Bilbo, and was passed on to Frodo before the Fellowship started from Rivendell. Sting glows with a blue light in the presence of goblins. The enchanted blade has the power to cut with an unnatural sharpness, as shown in its ability to slice through the webs of Shelob.

GO AWAY!
The Hobbit "Not at Home"
Thorin's company enters the Mountain while Smaug is gone to attack the Lake-men of Dale. The group comes across some of the treasure and use it to armor and arm themselves. Thorin gifts Bilbo with the mithril shirt: "'Mr. Baggins!' he cried. 'Here is the first payment of your reward! Cast off your old coat and put on this!'
"With that he put on Bilbo a small coat of mail, wrought for some young elf-prince long ago. It was of silver-steel, which the elves call mithril, and with it went a belt of pearls and crystals. A light helm of figured leather, strengthened beneath with hoops of steel, and studded about the brim with white gems, was set upon the hobbit's head.
"'I feel magnificent,' he thought; 'but I expect I look rather absurd. How they would laugh on the Hill at home! Still I wish there was a looking-glass handy!'"

The Hobbit: "A Thief in the Night"
Bilbo brings the Arkenstone to Bard, leader of the Dale-men who wait with their allies, the Elves of Mirkwood, to force peace between them and the Dwarves. Bilbo is wearing the mithril shirt and the Elf-king, King Thranduil, comments, "You are more worthy to wear the armour of elf-princes than many that have looked more comely in it..."

The Hobbit: "The Clouds Burst"
Thorin agrees to give Bilbo's one-fourteenth share of the silver and gold, not counting gems, to Bard in return for the Arkenstone, except the mail-coat Bilbo is wearing, the mithril shirt. Of the mail, Thorin says, "You have mail upon you, which was made by my folk, and is too good for you. It cannot be pierced by arrows..."

Fellowship "The Ring Goes South"
Bilbo gives Sting and the mithril shirt to Frodo.
Bilbo Baggins "held up a small shirt of mail. It was close-woven of many rings, as supple almost as linen, cold as ice, and harder than steel. It shone like moonlit silver, and was studded with white gems. With it was a belt of pearl and crystal."

The Fellowship continue to Redhorn Pass
The Company of the Ring both begins and ends the day awake, making long night-time marches along the road from Eregion towards the Redhorn pass. The daylight hours in between ? which they spend hidden as best they can from the birds which were searching the area two days ago ? are not even mentioned in the text, which expends only a single sentence on both nights of travel: For two more nights they marched on, climbing steadily but ever more slowly as their road wound up into the hills, and the mountains towered up, nearer and nearer.

The Fellowship in the Mines of Moria
Passing through the underground world of the Dwarves, Gimli refers to a mithril shirt as a gift worthy of a king. Gandalf tells about Bilbo's acquisition of the mithril coat, saying, "I never told him, but its worth was greater than the value of the whole Shire and everything in it."

Leaving Lothl󲩥n
The lands through which the Anduin flows as the Company ride its current south begin to change. Since their departure from L󲩥n two days ago, they have been floating between wooded banks; but as they continue south today the trees become sparse. When in the evening they make camp upon the west bank, the green plains of the north Riddermark are visible to the west and the rough and blasted Brown Lands lie to their east ? which continue east toward Rh?nd south toward Mordor.

The great Eagle Gwaihir the Windlord, who almost exactly five months ago rescued Gandalf from the pinnacle of the fortress of Orthanc, now discovers the wizard stranded upon the peak of Zirak-zigil. He carries the wizard to L󲩥n where he will rest briefly before returning to the labors interrupted by his struggle with the Balrog and death.

Three Hunters meet the White Wizard
In the light of morning Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn search the field across which the Riders charged and destroyed the Orc-band two mornings ago. Scattered hobbit-prints lead them into the forest and, on the very ledge where Merry and Pippin met Treebeard two days ago, they meet Gandalf, now returned to life as the White wizard and head of the Order. The wizard explains that Merry and Pippin are safe, and that the news they brought is arousing the ancient wrath and power of the Ents against Saruman. Gandalf calls his horse Shadowfax, and with him come the two horses that bolted last night; so all four are able to set out on horseback for Edoras and the King of the Golden Hall.
