Northern New Jersey is a microcosm for American metropolitan areas with drug and alcohol problems. Starseed Recovery's goal is to serve as a model aftercare community which will provide a platform for development in metropolitan communities elsewhere. This community support model for substance users will act as a nucleus to the surrounding society in various ways, including interfacing with the criminal justice system and youth culture.
Our prison systems are crowded with non-violent individuals for whom incarceration affords neither a real prospect for healing, nor protection for the larger community from crime. Such systems do represent a very real and substantial drain on the community's human, mateiral and economic resources. Time and again, research has clarly demonstrated that such individuals - and their communities - would be better served by continuing support in the form of a comprehensive aftercare training program. |
