"Storium" - A Text Artwork by Alan Tulloch

Initially known as "The Tracery"

This artwork was originally commissioned by Ipswich City Council for possible inclusion in future developments in D'Arcy Doyle Place but has been reconfigured as "Storium", showing in Global Arts Link with financial assistance from Ipswich City Council.

	STORIUM This artwork responded to the slogan, "Ipswich - It’s a Great Place." This statement could be seen as a "mini-story". It was designed to make people feel good about where they live. Many things about Ipswich and living in Ipswich are not included in this "story". I collected "other" short Ipswich stories from historical writings; comments through surveys; promotional material; scientific sources; websites etc. The texts were edited, grouped and presented as two scrolling light projections. One is about place, the other is about the culture of place. No punctuation separates individual texts. The viewer needs to sort the "stories" and to find meaning in each group. "Storium" allows the public to draw from this store of stories and allows the viewer to project their own stories into the work. Alan Tulloch 2003
