130501 » pass me some anti-old age medicine, quick!

listening to | radiohead \ fake plasic trees cd2 single
feeling | like shit and i have been all day... so go away now or you will cop it!

12.35am

i think i'm getting old. i was surposed to go out tonight, but my poor old body just decided it could not handle a fourth night out in a row. though, i must admit ten bands in three nights is pretty hardcore... just not as hardcore as twelve bands in four nights.

wednesday night: something for kate, fanny's, newcastle

tonight turned out to be my toughest test so far in regards to giving up smoking.

enemy #1: micky t
enemy #2: benny

ally #1: the stench of the room
ally #2: the expensive beer prices

first of all, i was shocked that mick and ben were even at the gig. ben especially. i knew i had manipulated mick into liking
sfk. actually, it was more clint's drumming that is responsible (mick is a drummer) but i was the one who told him to check them out live in the first place.

'but why was ben there?' i hear you ask? well, simple. he had never heard of
sfk so mick was able to convince him to go. like mick, ben is a punk, but he does like some decent music - such as d.i.g. actually, i think that is the only band that isn't a punk band that ben likes. did i really go out with this guy in what seems like a past life?

at any rate, it was great to see mick and benny as i hardly see them anymore. it was nice just to 'hang with the boys' for once. i've begun to miss that lately.

mick and ben also happen to be two of the reasons it has been so difficult for me to give up smoking in the past. they, along with the rest of their circle of friends, smoke like chimneys and when someone attemps to disband from the group it is generally frowned upon.

losely transcribed version of events on wednesday night then i told them i've given up somking:

me: oh! *jumps up and down* guess what?!? *jumps up and down* i've given up smoking!!!
ben and mick: *blank look* why?
me: because i want to! even better, i'm giving up for myself this time, instead of someone else!
mick: as if you can quit
me: i can! it has been easy so far!
mick: you will be back! you can't stray for long.
ben: *blows smoke in my face*
me: *waving hands* i can so quit! at least i don't smell anymore! not like you guys do! YOU ALL SMELL!
ben: you still smell
me: but not like cigarettes! *jumps up and down* you guys suck!
mick and ben: *take another drag of their cigarettes* *ben stubs cigarette out on his arm* ++

did i say i miss hanging around these guys?

not smoking was made easier by the fact that the beer was too expensive to bother buying. that and the fact that the air was so filled with smoke it made me sick. the last thing i really wanted was a cigarette.

sfk were tops. i want to start a clint fanclub now. if you want to join email me. we will wear clint shirts and clint wigs and take drumsticks so we can airdrum along with clint at future gigs. yay! oh, and the new guitarist, pip (ex-sidewinder), has a mullet! a rock mullet! a very rock mullet! i liked the mullet. it was rock.

++ may not have actually happened at this time, but ben does actually do this. he has the burn scars to prove it.

feeling | a little better than i did when i wrote that last piece

drinking | anything with caffeine in it
what i should be doing instead of this | two maths assignments for optimisation and one assignment for project management
wishing | this damned optimisation assignment i have been doing would be easier!

6.55pm

thursday night:
john butler trio, sj's, newcastle

conclusions drawn from this gig:

conclusion #1 bands who sit down on stage should not play at sj's. the stage is so low that anyone beyond the 4th row could not see
john butler. this meant that the entire crowd were trying to get as close to the stage as possible... thus making me feel like i was going to die of heat exhaustion.

conclusion #2 i am never wearing woolen turtleneck to a gig ever again, no matter how few people i estimate will be there. (see #1 re heat exhaustion)

conclusion #3 pissed dickheads up the front piss me off. so do pissed slutty chicks who can't dance in time with the muzac. comment from pissed dickhead in front of me during
john butler's 2nd song: 'jeez i hope all his stuff isn't like this.' this particular pissed dickhead decided to leave during the next song. wank.

conclusion #4 getting in free to gigs is something i could get used to (thanks
andrew).

conclusion #5
john butler is bloody tops! awesome guitarist! spunk too!

conclusion #6 long pointy fingernails look cool when they mean you can play guitar rooly good and rooly fast with them.

conclusion #7 as nick pointed out, long fingernails aren't very practical... especially when it comes (cums) to the more intimate moments in life. thus my 7th conclusion is that
john butler must be very good with his.. er... mouth. ;)

conclusion #8 reggae is also tops. especially weird arse reggae/folk type stuff like the bomba trio (support act) played.

later....

friday night:
something for kate, newtown rsl, sydney

even better than wednesday night!

first, we watched some of the top quality karaoke on show while we had a few quenching ales. unfortunately, i didn't get to see the
other kate do her cardigan's impression. damn. a point to note is that kate offered me a cigarette, not knowing i have given up, and i said no. yes, drinking beer without smoking is easy for me now.

briefly got to mingle with
jeanette (the famous actress) and marianne (the future spice girl) before they head off to see you am i rock the enmore theatre.

OMG pip cut off his
mullet!!! i was so distraught when he appeared on stage sans mullet. distraught to the point that i actually yelled out: 'omg! pip! where is your mullet?!' he merely shook his head. two people in front of me then told me that at the woolongong gig the night before, the crowd all chanted 'mullet' at him. haha. tops! it was such a rock mullet! i really wanted to get a pic of that mullet and send it to mullets galore. *one minute silence for the rock mullet*

even later.....

saturday night: surposed to be at the northern star seeing
mick hart, but i'm old and couldn't hack it

yes, i'm old now. four nights in a row just apppears to be too much for old katiepoo. i'm pissed too cuz he did a cover of
radiohead's 'lucky.' not faaaaair! *cries* *throws a tantrum* it's not my fault i'm sick and my bones get sore in the cold weather now! hehe.

instead, i stayed home and cleaned my room. i suck, i know.

oh, and i had to miss the
dandy warhols last week because none of my friends would go with me. crappola.
