Trade Deadline Analysis With The Q
Cards get: Scott Rolen
      Doug Nickle
Phillies get: Placido Polanco
            Bud Smith
        Mike Timlin
Analysis: The Phillies got beat on this deal.  They didn't
even get Jimmy Journell, the only player in the Cards farm system worth trading for.  Polanco is a good fielder but not a good stick, and not a starter on a championship team.  Bud Smith is the best player in the package, him, Duckworth and Myers should be an awsome combo in the next few years. Timlin isn't a closer or a great set-up man, but is an upgrade in their horrible bullpen. Journell should have replaced Timlin.  That would have been the best deal that they could have got.

Red Sox get: OF Cliff Floyd
Expos get: P Seung Song
P Sun Woo Kim
Player to be named
Analysis: This is a great deal for the Red Sox.  Not only do they
get a left handed power hitter, but they don't touch the major league roster, and they kept their 2 most valuable pieces in the farm system.  Although they won't be dealt now since no pitcher worthy of either of those players will clear waivers.  The Expos get 2 young pitchers who won't cost them much.  The move also gives them payroll flexability if they do get in the wild card hunt.
