Southwest Homes is a non- profit organization
administered by a volunteer Board of
Directors.
Provides support to and on behalf of
individuals with developmental disabilities
within the Swift Current community.
Manages one high needs home which houses
five individuals in a spacious home like
environment and provides two respite spaces
for families in the community.
Manages one group living home which houses
four individuals in a spacious home like
environment.
Manages an Independent Living Program,
which supports individuals in their own homes
in the community.
Provides weekly classes for social and life
skills called "LifeSmart".
History
The organization applied for incorporation under the Societies Act on August 7, 1973 and received approval and certification from the Registrar of Companies on August 9, 1973 as the legal corporation "Southwest Homes for the Handicapped Society".
Approval of funding by the Department of Social Services made the first Adult Group Home operational as of February 1, 1974.
On November 1, 1980 the organization received funding to start a five space "Supportive Independence Project" which became the presently named Supportive Independent Living Program.
In June 2004 the agency legally changed the organization's name to "Southwest Homes Inc".
We operate one 5-space group home with 2 respites spaces at 440 South Railway Street East, and one group living home with 4 spaces at 377 Walsh Trail. We have 90 hours per week in our SILP program where we presently support 23 individuals to live in our community.
