To play Newport away on a Saturday is considered a bonus to many teams; it gives many fans a chance of a weekend away. The Isle of Wight has been a favourite holiday venue for many people and quite often travelling fans remark on childhood memories of their time on the Island. This page is hopeful going to help you make your visit to the Island an enjoyable one. The aim of this page is to provide basic information to give you some assistance into being able plan a weekend on the Island. Most of the links provide a holiday guide type service and these links should provide you with enough information to maximise your enjoyment during your stay. Travelling to, and on the Island. There are several companies that run ferry services to the Island. The Wightlink car ferries run from Lymington to Yarmouth, Portsmouth to Fishbourne as well as a passenger only ferry that runs from Portsmouth to Ryde Pier. There is also there is a hovercraft service that runs from Southsea to Ryde Esplanade, this service is provided by Hover Travel. Those of you who wish to travel to the Island from Southampton can do so by car ferry or by the high speed passenger Red Jet stops at Cowes, whilst the car ferry goes to East Cowes. Southern Vectis, the only bus company on the Island, has buses that meet these ferries (there may be a short wait) the only exception being the ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne. Southern Vectis also run a rover ticket scheme ( one fee then as much travel as you want), if you are staying for a long week-end and plan to do lots of travelling over the Island then it may be to your advantage to buy a Rover Ticket.
