Creating Dependency

This is the most dangerous of all social agendas.  Don’t ever mistake the intentions of those who desire to redistribute the wealth of our society.  Claims to help the poor are often used to disguise their intention to create dependency.  These Robin Hoods want to create a situation where more and more people are dependent on them to take money from the have’s, and redistribute it to have-not’s.  Political leaders with a liberal agenda recognize that when they get enough people dependent upon them, and they can paint their more conservative opponents as threats to their redistribution ideas, they will garner a great number of votes

Why do liberal leaders push for government health care?  Dependency.  Social Security, Medicare, and high taxes all promise pay-outs to government dependants.  Remember the people with “diseases,” and people who made “mistakes”?  See why liberals are so quick to point out (and play upon) their dependency, rather than encouraging them to help themselves?  Remember the single parents?  Reparations?  It all boils down to creating government dependency.

A disturbing trend exists among our young people.  The amount of credit card debt they are racking up is increasing at a staggering rate.  They are encouraged to start staking out their claim on the material wealth that they are supposedly entitled to, and that it’s the “American way” to go into debt.  It sounds like a great idea to the inexperienced: buy now, pay later.  So, what do we have then?  College graduates already in huge financial debt from tuition, racking up additional credit debt, and with more knowledge about Madonna than about economics.  And a slew of liberal leaders all lined up promising to lend them a hand.  With your money, of course.

By being in power, our representatives have control over how much tax revenue is extorted from the working class, and over how it’s spent.  These two things combined provide the avenue for votes being up for sale.  The more people that are promised a piece of the pie, or who become dependent on getting a piece of the pie, the more votes that will be forthcoming.  This is nothing short of buying power with money.  Someone else’s money.  Your money.

Consider the reasons for welfare and social security.  “It’s too hard for some people to find work,” we hear.  Maybe so, and maybe there’s reasons for that, even aside from a lack of a proper education or motivation.  Economically speaking, two things civil rights extremists love to fight for are raising the minimum wage, and raising taxes on those evil money-grubbing corporations.  But let’s take a look at basic economics.  In the real world, corporations have to work within budgets.  Let’s say a certain growing corporation has $15/hour they can afford to use to hire more workers, and they decide to hire three new employees at the minimum wage of $5/hour.  Now, say corporate taxes go up, so now they only have $14/hour to budget for.  Now say the minimum wage gets raised to $7/hour.  The activists claim victory and announce they’ve provided a great service to these three workers, who will now be hired for $7/hour.  But remember that pesky budget?  Companies can’t just print money.  So unfortunately, the result is that only two of the workers will be hired.  The third will stay in the unemployment line, extracting money from the other two workers and the corporation anyway, via their taxes.

Liberal leaders are smart enough to know all this.  They’re also smart enough to know that they just bought the votes of the two workers who were hired at a higher wage, and also the vote of the guy in the unemployment line, who trusts them to keep fighting the evil corporations that won’t hire him.

What will this government dependency lead to?  Take a close look at the words of Professor Alexander Tyler, written over 230 years ago, before the United States came into existence:

“The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.  These nations have progressed through this sequence:  From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back into bondage.”

One might think this is quite prophetic in how closely it resembles American history.  But really it’s just a simple matter of history repeating itself.  Where would you say America is today in this progression?

The thing that made this country great is freedom.  Freedom to achieve success through hard work, and without imposed restrictions from government.  A final word of advice: Rather than trusting someone who promises to provide for you, place your trust in someone who allows you the freedom to provide for yourself.
