Byakko: The Tiger

~God of The West~

Byakko; the White Tiger. The ruler of the West (Sailo was the western-most country in Fushigi Yuugi), he is associated with autumn, wind, metal, the planet Venus, and the body parts lungs and small intestines. It is sometimes describes as a chimera or pegasus.. It was also thought of as the God of war, and helped the armies, as well as protecting the dead from demons.

The star constellation of Byakko (western: Pegasus maybe?) is the God of the West, and the shichi seishi (seven constellations) of Byakko are Tokaki (Andromeda), Subaru (Pleiades), Tatara (Aries: the ram ~Beta Ari), Ekie (also Aries ~35 Ari), Amefuri (Taurus: the bull), Toroki (Orion: the hunter ~Lamda Ori) and Kagasuki (also Orion ~Delta Ori)

Genbu: The Turtle/Snake

~God of the North~

Genbu; the Black Tortoise, also knonw as the somber or black warrior. The ruler of the North (Hokkan was the Northern-most country in Fushigi Yuugi), he is associated with winter, cold, water, the planet Mercury, and the body parts kidnes and bladder. He is the symbol of longivity and wisdom, and his shell is thought of to be the vault of the universe.

The star constellation of Genbu (any help on what contellation it might be?) is the God of the North, and the shichi seishi (seven constellations) of Genbu are Hikitsu (Sagittarius: the archer ~Phi Sgr), Tomite (Aquarius: the water-carrier ~Beta Aqr), Inami (Capricorn: the sea-goat), Uruki (also Aquarius ~Epsilon Aqr), Umiyame (Pegasus and Aquarius {?} Alpha Aqr), Hatsui (Pegasus ~Alpha Peg) and Namame (also Pegasus ~Gamma Peg)

I tried to organize these according to order of appearence, but this prooved to be difficult since some characters are only in either the manga or the anime, and not both... Also, some characters appear earlier in one than they do in the other... So, since I don't yet have the whole manga, I went by anime order, and the characters I didn't know where to put in were added at the end. Sorry for both my ramblings, as well as the confusion they may have caused...

Little Shoka

Morin and Fuu are two of Miaka and Yui's best friends from school. They don't appear much. Ummm, they're probably about 15 like Yui and Miaka, and are both stunned to find out that Miaka is going to try to get into Jonan school instead of Yotsubadai. That's about all I know (for now...)

Tai Itsu-Kun is, as they put it, "she who governs the world". She is the one who originally gave The Four Gods Sky and Earth to each of the four countries. Also known as "Sunokake-Baba" (meaning "Sand-Throwing Old Woman"), She keeps randomly popping up at different parts of the show with the adorably cute Nyan-Nyans (Don't worry, I'm getting to them...) She is omnipotent, and uses really big mirrors to watch things. Ummm, If I find out anything else, I'll write more!

Nyan-Nyans are super cute! They can "Fix Fix!" and "Cure Cure!". They heal people, mend clothing, undress and dress you, and even let spirits use their bodies to become solid again! Wow! These are Super-Beings! And, to top it all off, they pop out of thin air, and have some of the best lines in the show! ("Let's fix Tai Itsu-Kun's face!")

I don't know much about Yui's Mom, Heck, I don't even have a pic up for her yet; Then again, that's just 'cause my scanner has been temporarily un-hooked. It'll be up and running soon. Anyhow, back to Yui's Mom, she seems to really care about Yui, but definently isn't in the series that often. That's about it. Oh, and she's married.

There definently needs to be more Keisuke! He's a really cool character, in my opinion at least. He's Miaka's woman-starved brother. He definently cares a whole lot for his sister. Him and his buddy Tetsuya (I'll get to him later) are also big comedic reliefs at some parts, while being serious plot advancers at others. I'll get more concrete traits on him later (age 'n' stuff).

Another low-profile character. She's just not all that important except in the manga she's the reason why Miaka goes to spend time in the book. She's also the main reason why Miaka (and then Yui because of Miaka) wants to go to Jonan. She's rather strict, and a bit of a hypocrite. She's a single mom, and has 2 kids: Miaka and Keisuke.

Tamahome's family also have a bit of a low profile. In fact, the only family members (besides Tamahome) who get ny attention at all are Chuei and Yuiren, profiled below. Then, there's Tamahome's father (I don't have a pic yet), Gyokuran and Shunkei (eldest daughter and youngest son)

Koji is a bandit of Mt. Liakaku, and Tasuki's best friend.He likes to play out Osaka comedy routines, and is pretty funny. He's also a cool character. Ummm, That's about it.

This guy's an idiot! He's fat 'n ugly. No-one likes him, and, unfortunatly he's a drunken, perverted, BUM!!!!. He forcefully took the place of leader when the old leader died instead of waiting to give it to Genrou who was out at the time. He sucks, that's about the sum of it.

She's Mitsukake's lover, when she was alive that is. She was really pretty, and she helped him out alot with his medical practice. Unfortunately, while Mitsukake was out on a housecall, she contracted this horrible disease and, when she was about to dies, was possessed by an evil demon that gave people terrible pain and then ate their souls as they died, and pretended to bring them back to life. Wow, what a mouthful.

It's Mitsukake's cat! He is who I got my nic-name from! Tama-Kitty turned to TamaKity for me. Umm, I'll get more info on him later, but I'm tiered now, so, I'm gonna go to bed now, I'll continue this in a few days.

He's Keisuke's best friend, and the one who provides Keisuke with transportation and cash... He's really cool!!

Nuriko's little sister who died when Nuriko was a kid. They were very close siblings and Nuriko grieved a lot when she died.

The Genbu no Miko, she was the first Miko to be absorbed into the book. She wasn't very lucky as she was almost consumed by the animal God, and so her father killed her to prevent her from being consumed and the animal God from being brought into the "real" world.

One of the Genbu Shichi-Seishi. His real name is Chen Emtato, he's 6 1/2 feet tall (that's 184 cm), his Birthday is December 16th, and he was 21 when he died (therefore, he'd be 221 years old when he appears in the series). His seishi symbol is on his right eye (hence the patch), and his symbol means dou (ladle, dipper or measure) and would translate to Sagittarius, and his power is Ice Manipulation. Enough info?

The other known Genbu Shichi-Seishi. His real name is Chamka Tan, He was 16 when he died (therefore 216 years when he appears in the series), His b-day is February 16, he's 5'8" (173 cm)His symbol means emptiness and is located on the left side of his back, and would translate to aquarius in English constallation. He can also control ice (He has ice-snakes!!)

He's one of the three Byakko Shichi-Seishi shown in FY. I don't have much info on him (I had more, but I'll have to find it again ^.^;;) I think he's 109 (reverts to 19), and his power is teleportation/inter-dimentional warp. His seishi symbol is stride or foot, and his contellation is Andromeda Oh, and he was also Tamahome's master way-back-when.

Another Byakko Seishi, she is Tokaki's lover. As with Tokaki, I've mis-placed my info on her...I think she's 107 (reverts to 17), and her power is time-manipulation. Her symbol is "stopping place" or "united" (perhaps "getting together"?), and her constellation is Pleiades.

She is the adopted daughter of Tokaki and Subaru (who are trying to set her up with Tamahome). Besides that, I don't have much info on her, but I'll get to it (eventually...)

Tatara is yet another Byakko Shichi-Seishi, I don't know his real name, but he was 20 when he stopped aging, making him 110 years old when he appears in the series. His Birthday is March 21, and he has powers over plants. He is also the protector of the Byakko Shinzahou. Oh, his sign means "hill" or "lasso" (perhaps "bellows"?), and his contellation is Aries.

He takes care of Suzuno in her old age, and helps Keisuke and Tetsuya go through the book and find all the histories that lend clues to their cause. Again, I don't have much info, but I'm working on it.

Suzuno Ohsugi was the Byakko no Miko. She was Tatara's lover, and they couldn't be together after she called Genbu. She is an old woman in the series, and is barely clinging to life. Her father (Takao) was the friend of Genbu no Miko's father, and after recieving a letter from his friend, after he killed himself, about the evil book, he started studying it, and it took her daughter. Unlike Genbu no Miko, Suzuno was not consumed by the animal god, and lead a long, full life. She was probably about 16 or so when absorbed into the book (don't quote me on that, I'm not sure yet), so she would have been 106 as an old lady.

She's a follower of Soi in the OAV series, and had practiced the sex magic Soi was so well known for. She finds Tamahome and starts saying that he's Nakago! But, she has a secret... I don't want to spoil anything though, so I'll leave it as this, she's not really who she sais she is...

He's the "Big Baddie" in the 2nd OAV series; the opposite of Tai-Itsu Kun, he's pretty much the Devil of the Universe of the Four Gods.

She's another friend of Miaka and Yui in high school. Not much about her to tell, really...

One of Tenkous four followers, he is Milru's brother, and poses as a student at Yotsubadai High School, running for Student Body President to take control of the school.

Another of Tenkou's followers, she's Ren's brother, and posses as a student at Keisuke, Tetsuya and Taka's High-school, and joins their club to get close to Taka... Gee, I wonder why?

Born of the love between Hotohori and Houki's love, he is the heir to Konan country's throan. He is aslo the holder of Hotohori's memory stone.

Hotohori's wife (I think I shoud have mentioned her earlier...) He met her somewhere around the events of episode 36 I believe (watch the series, I don't want to create too many spoilers here), she was the object of affections for Hotohori's long lost older brother when she went to court to become one of Hotohori's concubines. She vowed to love and protect him safter 1st seeing him battle Tamahome and lose his chance for love with Miaka.

Nuriko's older brother, he misses Nuriko dearly and blames the Suzaku Shichi-Seishi for Nuriko's fate. He cherishes a toy crystal ball that Nuriko played with as a child, and feels that it protects him as Nuriko did in the past.

Hikou was the man Chichiri killed as a young man when he believed he was cheated on by his fiancee. Once Chichiri's best friend, their bond was ripped apart when Chichiri's Fiancee "confesed" about why she couldn't marry him. Chichiri, regretably, killed him, and also lost his fiancee in the great flood. Now, he has been gtranted a second chance at life by Tenkou, who, in exchange, has taken him on as one of his four followers.

The last of Tenkou's four followers, Yousui appears and is defeated by... A second Tamahome?! What's going on here? I can't give anything away, so, watch the series, or go get some synopses off one of my links! :P

Hee hee hee... Every wonder why tasuki hates girls? Well, growing up with 5 older sisters might have done it. Unfortunately, they were never in the anime... :( I will have more info on each of them individually later.

In the series, Mitsukake gives the last of his Ki to her in order for her to live. Later (In the second OAV), she has Mitsukake's Memory Stone, and in the 3rd OAV, well, no spoilers, right? ^.^::

Yuiren Sou, age:5, Brown hair, brown eyes, Height: approx. 3 feet, she's the youngest daughter. Loves to be with Tamahome (Tamahome practically raised her: she ended up being his favorite because of this.)

Chuei Sou, I don't have as much info on him *yet*, don't worry, I'm getting to it... Oh, he's the oldest son after Tamahome, and is almost as bad about money as tamahome is ("there's not doubt they're brothers")

I know I've missed some people, and I'll be sure to add to this at some point, so, for now, please be patient. :)
