Koh Pee Pee
This may be the prettiest group of islands in Thailand, although with the pace of development that's occuring here, it's hard to say whether they will remain so.
We spent most of our time here underwater. The crystal clear waters are perfect for snorkelling.
I was glad that we booked a long stay on Pee Pee Don Island. Really, who could resist with a name as great as 'Pee Pee'? But this place has more going for it than just a name: The scenery is absolutely stunning and there's lots of coral. Our bungalow was on Hat Yaow (Long Beach) which featured white sand, coral, and fine views of Phi Phi Lay.
This is the view of Phi Phi Lay. The island was catapulted to fame when it was used in filming the movie "The Beach".  We took a tour around the island and did some snorkelling along its coral beds. The island is mostly mountain and cliff, with the exception of the hidden beach at Maya Bay. There is also a cave known as Viking Cave, which contains prehistoric cave paintings. At the moment, access to this cave is closed to visitors. I'm not sure if this is in order to protect the cave paintings, or whether it has more to do with collecting swiflet nests. These nests are quite valuable as they are consumed as health food throughout Asia.
This is the path to our bungalow.; Dusk was especially peaceful and pleasant.
Ahhhh. The life of eating, drinking and making merry on the beach. Oh take me back there, please!!
Here is the view from a long tail boat.
See how very fresh and spunky I look in this picture? Well, that didn't last for long. After two days of snorkelling frenzy, I found myself in bed with a nasty tropical fever. I was completely delirious, in fact.
I was never certain what was fever-induced dream and what was reality. I remember cruising around the limestone islands in Phang-Nga as a James Bond spy. I think that part was dream. Ryota tells me that I did a lof of incoherent babbling and fevered singing. Those of you who have seen me at my best ('La Isla Bonita' at karaoke) know what Ryota must have been dealing with. It wasn't long before he had me on a boat bound for the village clinic.
Luckily I didn't have Dengue fever and started to feel better after a few days of rest and lots of medication.Yay! Happy End!
