On 30 January, Ruslan Sharipov, a correspondent for the Russian news agency Prima and president of the Union of Independent Journalists of Uzbekistan (UIJU) was attacked in Tashkent by two security forces officers. RSF reported that the officers dragged Sharipov to their car, beat him and eventually released him, apologizing for having detained him without a legal warrant. Sharipov was attacked again on 5 February by three men, one of whom tried to strangle him. The next day, he was attacked again by two men who hit him on the head and in the stomach and seized his passport and journalist card.
