One of the first astrology textbooks I ever owned (and still use regularly as reference material) was 'Parker's Astrology' by Derek & Julia Parker. This massive book covers a huge range of topics from beginner's to a very advenced level. If you are seriously interested in astrology, but don't know where to start, get yourself a copy of this book. You will use it for the rest of your life.
After having become familiar with the basic techniques used by astrologers, I then went on to complete the entire six volume series of 'The Only Way to Learn Astrology' by Marion March & Joan McEvers. This series of text books really is a very advanced course and anyone who wishes to become a professional astrologer, but doesn't have the time to attend regular classes should invest in these books.
By the time I had completed the March/McEvers series I was well and truly ready to establish my own consultancy, ABSOLUTE ASTROLOGY and become a professional astrologer.
However, I still wanted more. It was all very well to tell people that I knew what I was talking about, but when you are charging for your services, as I am, it helps to have some recognised qualifications. Time constraints kept me from attending regular classes, so when I came upon the correspondence course and exam system offered by the AMERICAN FEDERATION OF ASTROLOGERS, I realised this was the way to go for me.
Completing the fairly rigorous course (there is an exam after each of the lessons) and then passing my accreditation exam was a personal achievement of which I am as proud as completing my law degree.
Right now I am looking at ways of expanding my astrology practice, so if anyone has any advice for me, I'd love to hear from you.
Everybody knows their sun sign, but most people don't realise that as far as astrology is concerned this isn't even the tip of the iceberg.
All the planets in our solar system as well as the sun and moon have a profound effect on who we are. When an astrologer interprets a horoscope he looks at the positions of all the planets and the aspects they make to each other as well as to certain points in the chart.
My sun sign is Taurus the Bull. It stands for determination, patience and a practicel approach to most matters along with a love of the good life.
