MAGICK
I am relatively new to the practice of magick, so if anyone has any useful information or hints for me, I would love to hear from you.
The form of magick I practise can best be described as eclectic which is in keeping with my spiritual beliefs.
I prefer to call myself an eclectic Neo Pagan wizard rather than a male witch, because I don't consider myself to be Wiccan, even though I have adopted many Wiccan practices and beliefs as well as some elements of ceremonial magic and Egyptian magic. In addition I use the tarot for meditation and spellcasting. Astrology is my guide as to the timing of any rituals or spells as well as the dates for celebrating the Sabbats.
In short, I practice magick in a way which reflects my experiences and beliefs. Most importantly it works for me.
I follow the Wheel of the Year as practiced by most Pagans, however I follow it in the context of living in the Southern Hemisphere where the seasons are the reverse of those in the Northern Hemisphere.
For me the Winter Equinox is in June, the Spring Equinox is in September, the Summer Solstice is in December and the Autumn Equinox is in March.
It is my practice to celebrate Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh and Samhain on the days when the sun reaches 15 degrees of the fixed signs.
In addition I also observe some ancient Egyptian holidays such as the days honouring Isis and Anpu.

CASTING A CIRCLE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
My way of casting a circle is anti clockwise rather than clockwise, because here in Australia the Sun is in the North at noon.
At each compass point I call upon the four sons of Horus to aid and protect me in my work:
EAST/AIR
Lord Duamutef
NORTH/FIRE
Archangel Michael -
Lord Imsety
WEST/WATER
Lord Qebhsenuef
SOUTH/EARTH
Lord Hapi

I have found using the images of the Egyptian Tarot very useful for both meditation and spellcasting. The Egyptian Tarot deck uses images of ancient Egyptian mythology to amplify the deeper meaning of the cards.

SPELLCASTING
Most newcomers or those who have not experienced magic before are either very sceptical or fascinated by this practice.
Casting spells is a very powerful way of using energy to create a desired outcome and should only be used with great care.
In my view there are several important rules which should be kept in mind :
1. Think about what outcome you wish to achieve, why you wish to achieve such an outcome and whether it really is what you want. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR !
2. Free Will - any spell which involves trying to get someone else to do what you want rather than what they want takes away that person's free will and constitutes an abuse of power (in other words, Black Magic). Remember the law of Karma:
As you sow, so you shall reap.
