My fascination with the Tarot started a a fairly young age, even though anything to do with the Occult was certainly not encouraged in the Baptist household in which I grew up. I finally purchased my first deck, 'The Enchanted Tarot' in 1992 and began to learn how to read these beautiful cards. The images of the 'Enchanted Tarot' are gentle and peaceful. Perfect for anyone who can be put off by the more violent images which can be found on some of the other decks. After a few years I switched to reading the 'Hanson Roberts' deck which I still use for divination. From there it was only a short step to the 'Rider Waite' deck which, of course is the one most commonly used around the world. I carry a pocked sized edition of this deck with me on most days. Its' handy size makes it perfect as my 'mobile' deck. My interest in the mythology and religion of ancient Egypt finally lead me to discover the 'Ancient Egyptian Tarot' deck. The deck uses images of Egyptian deities and life in ancient Egypt. I am very protective of this deck and won't let anyone else touch it. It is therefore mainly used by me for meditation and spell casting. |

TAROT BASICS No one is quite sure where the Tarot originated. One theory is that it contains the pure knowledge and doctrine of Ancient Egypt. |

When the great library of Alexandria was destroyed, the priests of Alexandria designed a series of images which contained, in pictorial form, all their knowlegde. The earliest known tarot decks date from the Middle Ages. The Tarot is divided into two sections: The 22 cards of the Major Arcana deal with all of life's great themes and dramas such as birth, death and rebirth. The four suits of the Minor Arcana deal with more everyday concerns. The suits represent the four elements also used in astrology and magic, namely WANDS - Fire, PENTACLES - Earth, SWORDS - Air; and CUPS - Water The Wand, Pentacle, Sword and Cup are also used in the practice of magic. |
