Scholastic Guided Reading Program

Success in kindergarten through second grades depends on building a strong foundation of confidence in reading skills, developing independence in reading and developing fluency in reading.  Scholastic’s Guided Reading Program developed by Gay Su Pinnell, America’s leading authority on Guided Reading, does all three.  The program is aligned with No Child Left Behind and includes the reading components of comprehension, phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and fluency.
The program includes a fiction and non-fiction section as well as a content area section that is designed to enhance the students’ knowledge in science, social studies, and math while building vocabulary, background knowledge, and strategic reading skills.  It also includes the Wiggle Works software program which is designed to support the classroom program by assisting in the development of independent reading.
