..............and Christmas
Present --- December 2001

The New York Metro Chapter of EARA held its
10th Annual Holiday Party on December 2nd this year at the New Hyde Park
Inn on Long Island. Some of you may find this an interesting anecdote......
especially if you remember that Colonial Airlines and Eastern Airlines
shared the same hangar at LGA. And for those of you who may not know,
Colonial and Eastern Airlines merged in 1956.
A trio of guests at this festive event renewed
memories that they had shared in 1949. An aircraft mechanic
for Colonial Airlines, a stewardess for Colonial Airlines and a then 9
year old shoe shine boy. Those of you who still remember the hangar
at LGA may recall two ambitious young boys who lived across from LGA and
regularly shined the shoes of flight crews as they checked in for their
flights.
All three are now retired EAL employees, meeting
once again after more than 50 years. The young boy grew up to work
for EAL.
(You might be able to recognize Mike and Ladis
in a picture that appears on this web site at Gate 2l.
P.S. Their twins who were also pictured in that photo have grown up to
be successful lawyers.)

Present
santa's elves
At Santa’s workshop on December 5, 2001,
the elves were busily getting the presents ready for the annual Trip to
the North Pole, sponsored by the New York Chapter of the Silverliners.
The elves in the photo above are Mary McDermott, Rayleen Fiske and Mary
McGrath.

...........wrapping Christmas
Presents
The stockings were hung
by the chimney with care
...............
.......No that’s not right.
We’re not there yet. The presents were strewn all over the floor...
in the living room and dining room. More elves had to be brought
in.... the flight was scheduled to depart December 8, 2001, just 3 days
more.
Bette Dunne Anderson was a Colonial Airlines
stewardess before the EAL merger. A long time Silverliner, she joined Mary
McDermott, Rayleen Fiske and Nancy McGrath with the gift wrapping.

...........and still more
Christmas Presents
Betty Anderson, Pat Kenny, Mary McDermott, Rayleen
Fiske and Nancy McGrath
Santa’s workshop was at the home of Pat Kenny
in Island Park, L.I., NY.
Earlier this year, Pat acquired her first computer.
No sooner did she master control of the mouse, when she started writing
letters to corporations and organizations requesting toys and other gifts
for the children. Her efforts were rewarded with a huge turnout as
the deliveries started arriving filling her living and dining rooms with
boxes containing numerous gifts, including the hand knit hats some of the
elves are wearing in the above photos.
