REVIEW SUMMARY
by A. O. Scott"The Lake House," a wondrously illogical time-travel romance directed by Alejandro Agresti, is notable mainly for reuniting Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, who together survived a harrowing bus ride in "Speed." That was in 1994, and since then they have gone their separate movie-star ways. So is the chemistry still there? It is, although in this case the viewer will also have to grapple with a heavy dose of Hollywood metaphysics, which keeps the leads apart for most of the movie. At the start, Ms. Bullock's character, Kate, a stressed-out physician, moves out of the architectural curiosity that gives the picture its title, leaving a note in the mailbox for the next tenant. That would be Mr. Reeves's Alex, a soulful real estate developer who turns out actually to be the previous tenant. Some unexplained wrinkle in the space-time continuum has made it possible for Kate, in 2006, to correspond with Alex, who is still making his way through 2004. Kate and Alex, by means of handwritten letters placed in that mailbox, fall deeply and achingly in love. The contrivances of the plot are smoothly handled by David Auburn's script and by Mr. Agresti's direction.

Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter, the boy who lived.
Harry's wand has at its core a feather from Fawkes, Dumbledore's phoenix. The twin feather from Fawkes is part of Voldemort's wand. Rowling states: "Fawkes is Dumbledore's possession, not a Hogwarts possession."
The phoenix is the higher octave of the Moon, the only animal able to regenerate itself. This gift of self-resurrection may include a unique feature that was part of the mystery of the Egyptian Goddess Mut, a spiral neck that would make it a representative of the immortal [as science regards the double helix.] The phoenix is more than a companion or pet; Dumbledore may allow Fawkes to nest in his office because the phoenix is a power animal of the air, Dumbledore's patronus, or an ally defender of Hogwarts and those teachers and students who attend the school.

Anglachel, 'Iron of the Flaming Star'
The sword forged by EOL the Dark Elf and borne by Beleg of Doriath. It was later reforged as Túrin's black sword, Gurthang.
The sword EOL gave to Thingol, and Thingol gave to Beleg of Doriath [known after its reforging as Gurthang, Iron of Death].
EOL was originally a member of the royal house of Doriath, and kin to Thingol himself.
The 'flaming star' in Anglachel's name is a reference to its origin. With its mate Anguirel, it was made from exceptionally strong iron recovered from a fallen meteorite.
Anguirel's history is far more mysterious. The only specific detail we have is that EOL kept it for himself, but it was stolen by his son Maeglin.

GUTHWINE
ÉOMER
While still a young man of just twenty-six, Éomer the King's nephew was made Third Marshal of Riddermark, and took command of the Riders of Eastfold.
The sword of Éomer, Guthwine, was borne by him at Aragorn's side in the Battle of the Hornburg, which momentarily changed the course of the battle, and later Battle of the Pelennor Fields. It's name means 'battle-friend'.
The swords flashed from the sheath as one.
"Guthwine," cried Eomer. "Guthwine for the Mark!"
"Anduril" cried Aragorn. "Anduril for the D?in!"
Source: The Two Towers: "The King of the Golden Hall," p. 121-22; "Helm's Deep," p. 139
The two swords met again at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where they cut a course through the whole hosts of Sauron, met in the middle of the field of battle, leaned on their swords and were glad. When others despaired at the approach of the black-sailed ships of the Corsairs, Éomer raised Guthwine to defy them. But then he laughed and threw his sword into the air and sang as he caught it, for the standard of Aragorn was revealed on the foremost ship.
Etymology:
Guthwine means "battle friend" from the Old English guð ¥aning "battle, war" and winë meaning "friend."

Poisonous Grima Wormtongue manipulates the court: "He signed it this morning."Gríma provides orders signed by the king.
Herugrim
Sword of Theoden. Herugrim was an ancient blade. Its scabbard was clasped with gold and was set with green gems.
When Theoden fell under the influence of Grima Wormtongue, Grima took Herugrim and locked it in his chest. On March 2, 3019, Gandalf healed Theoden and said, "Your fingers would remember their old strength better, if they grasped a sword-hilt." (TTT, p. 121) Theoden first accepted Éomer's sword Guthwine and then he asked that Herugrim be retrieved from Grima. Hama made Grima give him the keys to the chest where Herugrim was hidden, and then he knelt before the King and presented the sword to him.
Theoden took Herugrim into the Battle of Helm's Deep and he wielded the sword at the Pelennor Fields, where he was slain on March 15. Theoden's esquire Merry Brandybuck bore the King's arms in the funeral procession to Rohan. On August 10, Theoden was buried with his arms, but it is not stated whether Herugrim was among them.
Etymology:
Herugrim means "fierce sword." In Old English heoru means "sword" and grim means "fierce, angry."

J.R.R. Tolkien - Seeing Stones - Palantiri
SEEING AND BEING SEEN
The watchtower known as Weathertop, or Amon Sul constructed to hold one of the ancient Palantiri; root word in Quenya 'palan' means, 'far and wide' in palantiri; 'tir', 'watch, watch over' in Minas Tirith, palantiri, Tar-Palantir, and Tirion.
The height of the mountain sites provide an advantage of far signtedness to aid communication, protection of the surrounding area, and to help patrol a great distance visible from the mountain range. The disadvantage follows, in that, while it is possible to view others easily from a lookout point like Amon S?t provides the location of the surveyer for others is a position below.
PALANTIRI = 'Those that watch from afar'; the seven Seeing Stones brought by Elendil and his sons from N?r, placed throughout Middle-earth for the purpose of communication, made by the Noldor [Feanor] in Aman. They were unbeakable crystal spheres [probably refer to brow energy, symbolized as a 'seeing eye'] used to track events from a distance, or with two or more, they could be used to communicate. Legend has it ancient civilizations had similar outlooks on the outer boundary of their nation. The network, situated far from the city itself, provided better opportunity to announce to receivers in each capital the arrival of foreign dignitaries long before they reached the city gate. Once an ambassador was in view of the wall of the city all preparations had been made prior to the arrival. Tolkien may have had this technique in mind because he infused the idea of grace and facilitation in his palantiri legend.
For the most part they revealed only things near to another kindred Stone,
for the Stones each called to each;
but those who possessed great strength of will and of mind might learn
to direct their gaze wither they would. Thus the Numnoreans were aware
of many things that their enemies wished to conceal,
and little escaped their vigilance in the days of their might...
These were the seven stones of the verse:
Tall Ships and tall Kings
Three times three,
What brought they from the foundered Land
Over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
And one white tree. There were eight named, of which seven were given to the Lords of Anadune as a gift. The eighth, the Master Stone was kept in Tol Eressea.
The Stones were divided. Three Elendil took and his sons each two.
Those of Elendil were set in towers upon Emyn Beraid, and upon Amon Sul, and in the city of Annuminias. But those of his sons were at Minas Ithil and Minas Anor, and at Orthanc and in Osgiliath.
These seven escaped the Downfall in the ships of Elendil and his sons. Four of the seven were kept in Gondor and the other three in Arnor. They were kept in the following locations:
Gondor:
Minas Anor (later Minas Tirith)
Minas Ithil
Osgilliath
Orthanc
Arnor:

Priestesses and The Temple
Temples had to be square or rectangular so as to face the four cardinal "regions" of the sky. Otherwise, the augur's wand could not get a true response from the south sky, the west, the north, or east, the fire quadrant. The design became a standard blueprint for energy management in ancient Rome, the ancient Mayan culture, and in Hindu symbolism as well - to name a few civilizations that utilized the universal pattern. Later Christian artists would represent the four evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in similar style.
Vesta's round temple, built by Augustus Caesar, was adjudged an anomaly in Rome. The blueprint pointed to an ancient origin, probably as a navel and center of the earth, as old as Delphi and Heracles, possibly alluding to pre-flood history. Historians speculate another inspiration may be the round shape of primitive wattled huts built by the aborigines [a reference to dream time], or a Native American kiva, beneath the floor of a round building [hogan] composed of concentric circles level with the earth's surface.
The Priestess wore white in the temples dedicated to Brahamans [India], Druids [Celts], Vestals [Rome], and the Pythia [Greece], and others.
