#10 Beekman Moose (Slasher)

The Beekman Moose almost did not qualify for the IICC.  Due to a tie within the applications, they had to prove that they had what it took to compete on the IICC's Elite world stage by facing the Badass Blues in a sudden death qualifying match.  The Moose won by a score of 4-3 and as a result, earned the final spot in the IICC's USA Division.
Don't be fooled by the fact that they were the last to qualify.  They possess incredible talent and are quite capable of beating anyone on any given night.
Sadly, due to the delay in the Moose's qualifying, they were forced to push back their matches and as of this writing, have yet to play an IICC game.

Accomplishments: (as of 03/23/04) (Division 6-1-1-1)
Elite Cup Champion, Champions Shield Winner, Beer Cup Winner, Super Cup Winner, 5 League Cups, 4 Playoff Cups.
Penalty:
Use of Antlers

Coach Says: (actually his words)
I can't believe we were invited to play in the prestigious Iggy International Championship Cup. It's a great honor. These guys have really been working to deserve this kind of recognition, and I'm so proud of them..... except of their passing skills. I think I'll call extra practices every day from now until our first IICC game.
Team Name Origin: (his words again)
When I first logged on to SLH, I was given a team named Shanksville Moose, who sucked. But the whole division sucked, so I was able to put them on a winning track. We started in division 6-1-2, and got promoted to 6-1-1, where we've been ever since. The Shanksville Moose qualified for the first ever Iggy Cup just by being there and saying why not? We soon learned how much room we had for improvement by setting records that will probably stand forever for the worst performance in the history of the Iggy Cup. When SLH did their big update, I felt it was time to update the Moose too, so I moved them to Beekman, a town in New York where I used to live. I stuck with Moose mainly for consistency, but I kind of like it too. This move was described in the BotR 3 forum:.

Author: slasher@iggy Posted: 20 Oct 2003 17:10 The Moose made some changes over the summer, moving from Shanksville to Beekman. Shanksville had never been anything but a great hockey town, and always supported the Moose. But the Beekman town council was hungry for a team and put together a package of tax incentives and public funding for new rink - the state-of-the-art Beekman Multiplex.

None of that seems to have helped much. The Moose opened their Has-Been season at home, and got soundly trounced by a bunch of Drunken Fishermen. Beekman Moose looked pleased when they only lost 7 - 2. They knew it could have been much much worse. Few fans showed up, and even fewer stayed for the third period. Several players were overheard muttering that they never should have moved from Shanksville.

How'd you get the Beekman City Council to spring for the Multiplex? Was it all under the table?

What's the matter bambam14, didn't they teach you that in general manager school? I see you're still a Student of the game, so if you'll allow me to be your mentor, here's a quick lesson on how to bilk taxpayers for fun and profit.....

First, sell some key local businessmen on the idea. Construction company owners are key. Bar and restaurant owners are also good. Enlist local land owners to help choose the candidate sites. These people will be your board of directors.
Next, these guys make contributions to the political campaigns of the councilmen. It doesn't matter what party they are, and be sure to donate to all candidates so whoever gets elected is beholden to the board.
Now the council votes to raise taxes or sell bonds to fund the new sports arena. Tell the pathetic voters that we need to do this to create jobs. That's a good one. Also it doesn't hurt to dedicate a portion of the profits from concessions to support local schools. Everyone knows that kids these days are becoming derelicts, and the schools always need more money.
Now, do the same thing in a nearby rival town so you can stir up civic pride to help bolster your case. If we don't cough up some cash, those morons over in Loserville sure will, and there will be a giant sucking sound as all our jobs go down the highway. Then our daughters might even marry their sons.... Oh I can't take it! Quick, quick.... Here's all my money!

Soon enough you'll get your arena and new uniforms at the start of every playoff season
