Aside from being a homosexual haven, District 13 Honor Chorus was a hell of a lot of fun. About 14 hours of rehearsal and then a performance has left my speaking voice about half an octave lower. But, woo, I got the opportunity to sing in Ye Olde English (as opposed to Thou Olde English . . .). I now know how to pronounce words like "nywe," "Ihesu," and "orw," just in case I ever need to insert them into casual conversation. In fact, some of the symbols/letters used in the sheet music I can't even find on my computer's character map. And this music was written before dynamic markings were invented, so I'll just call it an interesting experience.
We also got to sing a male-bashing Appalachian folk song. "I wish I never had seen him, or in his crib he died." How morbid. How cynical. How completely awesome. That was the best part of the song by far. It went quite well with another song we sang about losing our man to a woman with a cubic zirconium and store-bought hair. Yes, I was in a women's chorus, by the way.
And I'm saddened to say that by having Chick-Fil-A shoved down my throat for two days, combined with the usual effect of Halloween candy, my ever-so-popular abs of steel are now more like ever-so-squishy wads of cotton. (Dressing like Britney Spears was so last week anyway . . .) So now is gone the stomach that made our Econ teacher stop mid-sentence and never regain her train of thought. (No, I didn't flash her; it was a picture, genius.)
But about the original topic of Honor Chorus...it was very cool, and worth missing Senior Night [I think]. It felt so good being surrounded by people who can actually sing well, and sing out at that. The other choruses were loads of fun to watch, including the 11/12 Mixed Chorus doing the mating calls of the Amazon rain forest. Meeting new people was also a plus, but, following the norm in the world of Chorus, all the cute guys were gay. Topic 2) Censorship: - By Grant
In my opinion, censorship is a morally wrong version of communism or fascism (even though they are opposite extremes) created by extremists (usually republicans) to try and keep people under their control. So when I received information from my brother about Clear Channel Communications' memo with over 160 songs they think should be banned from the radio, I became angry and distressed. Sure some of these songs had some offensive nature to them such as System of a Down's "Chop Suey" and Slipknot's "Wait and Bleed," but songs that represent America were also included in this list, such as John McLean's "American Pie" and Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'." I decided this communication company was just completely evil. How could someone say what is right and wrong to play on the radio? If you don't like a song, change the radio station. Music is a freedom of speech, and demolishing this right would be devastating. The destruction of our forefathers' great constitution will be the downfall of this nation.
"Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech." ~Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
Following the bombing of the WTC, a program director for Clear Channel Communications issued a memo to the thousands of radio stations it owns nationwide recommending the ban of the following songs from airplay for fear they could be found "offensive" to listeners in wake of the disaster.
Well, I am offended.

Up jump the boogie then bang, let 'em hang
While the paranoid try to stuff the void
Let's capture this AM mayhem
Undressed, and blessed by the Lord
The power pendulum swings by the umbilical cord
Shock around the clock, from noon 'til noon
Men grabbin' they mics, and stuff 'em into tha womb
Terror's the product ya push
Well I'm a truth addict, oh shit I gotta headrush
Sheep tremble and here come the votes
Thrown from the throat, new cages and scapegoats
Undressed and blessed by the Lord
The same devil that ran around Managua with a sword
Check out the new style that Ollie found
I tune in with a bullet to shut down the devil sound
Shut down the devil sound
Tha program of Vietnow
Shut down the devil soundTurn on the radio, nah fuck it, turn it off

Somebody gotta shell 'em
These evil angel's lists, hittin' the AM playlist
Paid to say this
That one inhuman! illegal! single woman,
The one with out a room!
The transmissions wippin' our backs
Yeah, comin' down like bats from Stacy Coon
Terror's the product you push
Well I'm a truth addict, oh shit I gotta headrush
