This one is Clean Out Your Brain Week. I know it's getting kinda crowded in there, so clean it up, and make room for something useful.Topic 1) Why I'm a Dork: - By Me (Cat)
Ok, so I've always known I live my life on the, uh, geeky side. But now I, Catherine Ann James, am a self-proclaimed certifiable dork. I look forward to Leadership Trainings, Beta Conventions, and other extracurricular activities. And if I lose my agenda book, I go completely insane, as my classmates have now witnessed.
Sometimes, I watch the television show "Freaks and Geeks," and I always find myself identifying more with the geeks. Perhaps it's because of my drug-free, straight-edge lifestyle, but I find I can relate to the character of Millie the best, as well as the three male geeks. Even though I've never played Dungeons and Dragons, Magic, or even a real game of Chess, I think I'm in touch with my "inner dork." I carry index cards in my bookbag, for God's sake!
I may be a dork, but at least I can say that I'm content with my current state. I mean, I've got the car, the boyfriend, and the overprotective parents. Two out of three ain't too bad, in my opinion. At least I get out some, right?Topic 2) In response to Censorship: - By Heather Elo
The ?Clear Channel ban list? is not a ban list at all. This came up with my friends just after 9/11 and I went to the Clear Channel website to find out what was up (www.clearchannel.com). This is what they said: ?Clear Channel Radio has not banned any songs from any of its radio stations."
Clear Channel believes that radio is a local medium. It is up to every radio station program director and general manager to understand their market, listen to their listeners and guide their station?s music selections according to local sensitivities. Each program director and general manager must take the pulse of his or her market to determine if play lists should be altered, and if so, for how long.
?In the wake of this terrible tragedy, the nation's business community is responding with a degree of hypersensitivity,? explained Mark P. Mays, President and Chief Operating Officer of Clear Channel. ?Even some movie companies have altered some of their release schedules in light of the mood in America today. Clear Channel strongly believes in the First Amendment and freedom of speech. We value and support the artist community. And we support our radio station programming staff and management team in their responsibility to respond to their local markets.?? http://www.clearchannel.com/timages/article/Playlist-final.doc
Another quote directly from a Fox News Article: "From this list, which recently surfaced on the Internet, many are alleging that this is a corporate mandated list of songs to ban. This is not what this was. It was one region trying to be sensitive to their listeners after last Tuesday's events."
This was not a mandate. This was a list that one radio executive made that managed to get leaked to the Internet. People took it and ran with it. This list wasn't a "banned" list, but a list of "suggestions" that DJ's should consider and think about before playing in their area due to the events. I imagine the DJ's probably looked at the list and said, "Hahaha," and threw it away. People find things and overreact to them without checking their sources and seeing what the truth behind the story is.
Note: Clear Channel owns 96 Rock, Peach 94, and Mix 105 in Atlanta.Topic 3) Cat's Song of the Week:

So I've been told that Grant's brother, Glen, wrote half of that Censorship article last week. I've never met the guy, and I don't think he even knows what the Litterbox is, but I have to give some credit to him.Closing:
I guess I should remind everyone to finish your Harry Potter book before Friday, so y'all can be fully prepared for the movie. Anyway, have a good week everyone. And if I don't send another issue out before I head off to Florida next Wednesday, Happy Thanksgiving.Previous Edition | Next Edition [ Get Involved | Home | Songs | Archives | Quotes | Websites ]
