| This bird, The Woodcock, is said to have started the surname. Legend says that a dealer of game in London kept a large suppy of the game bird on hand. It was a delicacy and the people did not know what to call the dealer so they called him "Mr. Woodcock". The dealer did not object as long as the people purchased his birds at a good price. |
