My documented research has taken me back as far as Bartholomew Thatcher who was born in New Jersey around 1805. On March 17th 1847, He enlisted in the Mexican War with Company D 11th Regiment of the US infantry as a private in Capt. William Irwins Company. He served at RioGrande and in Vera Cruz Mexico. He was discharged Aug 16th, 1848. He also served in the Civil War with Company E, 76th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania. This unit was known as the Keystone Zouaves . He was buried at Church Hill Cemetary in Reedsville Pennyslvania. He was married to Eleanor Stewart Jan 25th, 1849 by Rev. John Eastor near Milroy Pennsylvania. This event occured later in life as proven in census records. I sent for Bartholomew's military record and pension file and several documents state that neither were married before. Company E was recruited from Bedford County where Batholomew had been living. He contacted chronic gastroenteritis in South Carolina in October 1862 as did many other company members. They state that he was a good soldier, one of more than ordinary intelligence and often went on duty when he was not in a condition for duty. I have not found the parents of Bartholomew Thatcher. He was born in New Jersey around 1805, I do not know where. I don't know when he moved to Pennsylvania, I don't know if he moved here alone or with his family. I have several "Leads" you can explore by clicking here. If anyone reading this sees any connection please send me an e-mail. I have the entire pension file scanned and will send it via e-mail to anyone who is related or interested. |
