What the heck is dinghy sailing? And what makes a boat High Performance?
Wanna find to find out? Well you've come to the right place!
-Dinghy's are the most commenly sailed boats in the world

-It's defined as any sailboat under 19ft.

-They are raced widely by both youth and adults.

-Pretty much all of those guys you see running around America's Cup boats started off in dinghies

-Dinghies are the only form of boats sailed in the Olympics

-A dinghy that's high performance means they can fly across the water. Is a Laser high performance? Yes. Is an old 10 foot wooden boat laying in someone's backyard high performance? No.

-Most high performance boats are made of fiberglass, and the boom and mast are made of aluminem or some other light stainless material. The lines are long and cabin is short. Don't expect to be very comfy in a high performance dinghy!

-A trapeze(or trap) is commen on high performance dinghies. A trapeze is a harness with a line attached to it, which is strapped onto the sailor. The line is tied on o the top of the mast. That allows the sailor to hang off the edge of the boat to flatten the boat.

-A spinnaker is also common. That is the third (and often colorful) sail.

-When a boat is "planing". the front of the boat is out of the water and pointing to the sky. It often happens in very high wind days. Also known as "blasting off" by some, most consider it to be the ultimate sailing experience.

-Dinghies cost relatevly cheap. You can get a used version of any of the boats we cover anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the year or condition. A new dinghy ranges from $4,000 to $12,000.

-If you live near a large body of water, you probably have boat club stocked with dinghies near you. I suggest joining one if you really want to get the best out of your sailing experience.
