If
you're in a hurry, don't go to Gill.'s.
However, If you have a little time to
spare, and are going through that "well, what are
YOU in the mood for" struggle with the person
you're dining with, Gill's has a pretty varied
menu, from burgers and a unique variety of
sandwiches and salads to high-end pastas
& pizzas. And, most likely because of the
slow and rather insincere service, even on a
Friday/Saturday night, you can probably get in
without a wait! There are two floors of dining
(many people are unaware of the upstairs). A
comfortable downstairs with lots of windows, wood
floors, cream city brick walls, basic wooden
table/chairs. People walk in and out regularly,
stopping in for a cup of coffee at the "bar" (this
was originally just a coffee shop). In the summer
there's outdoor seating. I've eaten there 3 years
straight now after the Downer Days bike race during
the summer. (quick note: I'm a huge cycling
fan!) I haven't been in the upstairs in about 4
years, but I remember it being similar to the
downstairs, but more spacious, not as brightly lit,
with wooden floors as well. (The kitchen is
upstairs, I believe.) It is a tad bit on the
pricey side - my veggie burger and fries were about
$8.00, but it was huge burger and excellent -
unlike any I've had before. My friends seemed to
enjoy their sandwiches as well, once they could get
their mouths open wide enough to bite into them!!
(The bread is quite thick!) On occasion, they also
have live music performances there. :o)
check it out!
