He trimmed lamps, mixed paint, looked after the decks, and he put the lamps on at night and took them off in the morning).
*Hitchens, Robert Quartermaster- (He had served on ships up about Nerway, Sweden, Petersburg and up the Danube. He was interrogated at the U.S. inquiry. He lived at 43 James Street, Southampton. He was also interrogated at the British investigation. He was at the wheel when the collision occurred. He eventually relocated to South Africa. He became the harbor master at Capetown. In the 1970’s he told an officer that White Star had arranged his move and new career to silence him).

*Lightoller, Charles Herbert Second officer- (He lived in Netley near Southampton. He was nicknamed “Lights” by the crew. As the maiden voyage was beginning he had an uneasy feeling about the Titanic and he couldn’t figure out what it was. He was interrogated at the British inquiry. He had been at sea since January 1900. He had been shipwrecked on a deserted island, he had prospected for gold in the Yukon, and he had been a cowboy in Canada. He returned to the Oceanic after the disaster and he remained there until she was shipwrecked on a reef in WWI. At the end of 1915 he received command of a torpedo ship. He later retired
from the sea, knowing White Star wouldn’t let a former Titanic officer have a ship of his own. For a few years he ran a guest house in London, and he later raised chickens. In WWII he used his own pleasure boat, The
Sundowner, to assist the evacuation of Dunkirk).

When he left, he unconsciously kissed his sister and said goodbye, and as he was leaving she called to him and asked him why he said goodbye
instead of his usual so long sea you again soon. He had not realized he said anything out of the ordinary. He was interrogated at the British inquiry).

Brides father was Arthur John Larner Bride. His mothers name was Mary Anne (Rowe) Bride. His parents lived at 58 Ravensborne Avenue, Shortlands. Bride was married to a Scottish school teacher name Lucy Johnstone Downie Bride. He had three children named Lucy, John, and Jeanette. Lucy became a state registered nurse at the age of 28. She married William D. Desmond who was a Colonial Administrative officer. John earned a degree at Oxford and worked for the British forestry division. He died in a car accident in Nigeria.
