Best Video: Running Scared by becca (Award)
Running Scared - action/overview
Obsessive24: A slick, brilliantly edited vid with fantastic pace and dynamics. The use of motion is especially wonderful, with a great mixture of source camarawork, added zooms and time toggle. I loved the jump cuts at 0:54. The pull-out and explosion at 1:01 was another highlight for me. An extremely accomplished vid.
Txlsplash: An amazing video with an incredibly innovative and breathtaking editing style. I love the super-fast cuts throughout the video, and the motion that runs through. The zooms, the flashes and the color effects work very well here, making the overall effect very trippy, especially at the beginning. I love the gunshot at 0:18 that goes with the music, the shot that goes upside down at 0:33 and the ensuing sped up shot, the cutting at 0:42 and at 0:48, the explosion at 1:02, the smile at 1:25 that goes very well with the change in dynamics.

Best Action Runner Up: The Rescue by dragonchic (Award)
Spider-Man 1 & 2 - action/character and relationship studies - Peter & supporting cast
Obsessive24: What a fantastic mix of action and emotive storytelling! The thing I love most about this vid is how well it uses time toggle and certain slow clips to emphasise important moments or cues in the music. I love the slow-mo glasses on the drum fill at 0:28, the running at 0:33, and the way the push-in sped up at 1:04. The action editing is consistently wonderful, with excellent, nuanced syncing of visuals and audio. The sequence from 1:53 onwards is spine-tingling stuff. I am in love with how the camerawork completely gelled with the sound of the string section. From a character perspective, it's also a touching study of Peter, the people that love him, and the bonds between them.
Txlsplash: A very motivational, heroic video and a great study of Peter Parker. There is great cutting and motion in lots of places in the video. I like the freeze shot at 0:21, the shot at 0:30, 0:33. I also like the little clip at 0:54, and the bit starting at 1:01. The motion at 1:57 is great, and of course the segment starting at 2:02. The ending is also wonderful and climactic with lots of heroic moments.

Best Mood Piece: Sadeness by Kristin (Award)
Vampire movies - mood piece
Obsessive24: Kristin's vids always seem so professional, and this is no exception. The pace is excellent here, with beautiful use of source camerawork and lovely composition on overlays. An extremely sensual piece of work. I especially like how it matches visuals to the moaning and breathing in the music. The Marquis de Sade would be proud. ;)
Txlsplash: A very dark and sexy vampire video. I love how so many different sources are put into this video, and it all comes out in a very cohesive way. The effects make the video much more intense, especially at parts like 0:29 with the black flashes. The constant flashing on the beat and the overlays make the whole thing look so professional and intense. The overlay at 0:40 looks great, and I love the clips that are sped up. The mirror images in the beginning and later in the video give a more psychedelic, torturous feel. And the Underworld clips look lovely, as always.

Best Mood Piece Runner Up: Love My Way by yorkshirewench (Award)
Lawn Dogs - relationship study - Trent & Devon
Obsessive24: A lovely vid edited with subtlety and grace. Beautiful use of source cinematography, and fabulous internal motion. I especially loved the clip connections starting at 2:29. I haven't seen the show, but I really want to after seeing this. An endearing and accomplished vid.
Txlsplash: An expertly put together video. It seems like the clips are always played out for just the perfect amount of time to create a beautiful underlying motion. I love how the narrative starts out with happy times, so that by the end of the video when the direction changes, you already feel nostalgic (even without having seen the source).

Best Narrative: Wicked Game by Shazzer (Award)
Brick - narrative
Obsessive24: A gorgeous, moody vid with stunning use of cinematography and subtle internal motion. What I found particularly impressive was the fact that, even though the editing isn't entirely linear, the narrative still came through very clearly through the use of visual motifs and colour.
Txlsplash: An excellent and moving narrative. There is some great motion and cutting in the video. There is a feeling of hopelessness and emptiness throughout. I love how this is explored in such an interesting way. The narrative begins with the dead body, and the gaps are filled in after that, both before and after the beginning scene.

Best Narrative runner up: Too Little Too Late by whereistheluv (Award)
Veronica Mars/pro music video - narrative/shipper/angst - Veronica/Duncan
Obsessive24: A very stylish and innovative video with a clear AU narrative and unobtrusive cutting all the way through. I really like the white letterboxing and colour effects. I also loved the fantastic effects work with Jojo's face "reflected" in the VM cast pictures.
Txlsplash: A professional-looking video with great cutting between the source footage and the singing. The clip connections starting at 0:46 are particularly impressive, blending the two different sources together to make it seem like the singer is a spectator of the scene.

Best Shipper: The End of the World by Brad (Award)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - relationship study - Buffy/Faith
Obsessive24: This is an incredibly comprehensive overview of the characters' complex relationship, but at the same time retaining an excellent sense of focus and development. Amazing overlay work, which happens consistently and often throughout the vid. This vid also boasts detailed sensitivity to subtle clip connections, composition and audio-cued movement. I particularly liked the head movement to the guitar notes at 0:40, the window correlation at 1:00, the shower at 1:03, and the whole segment starting at 1:10 with the various overlays of them walking down the road. 3:50 is another great image. Lovely use of voiceovers also. 3:23 always gives me chills!
Txlsplash: A very insightful look into the Buffy/Faith relationship. The video shows that even though they have been apart for a while, they are still thinking of each other. I particularly like the blurry overlays that go with the music. I love the shower segment at 1:07, the overlay makes it seem like Faith is bursting at the seams, but not really screaming. I love how both characters take a walk through memory lane and the blurry flashes really add to that.

Best Overview: Andy You're A Star by Martouf Marty (Award)
Life on Mars - overview
Obsessive24: This vid uses source camerawork to great effect, and there's a lovely sense of movement all through. The bass-driven cutting echoed the music really well, and there are great moments of internal motion. I especially liked the quick black fades in the beginning.
Txlsplash: A very intriguing video, makes me want to watch the show, actually. (How do you keep doing that?) Wonderful motion throughout, like the zooming and cutting around 0:13, at 0:54, 1:06, the slow-mo dancing and running starting at 1:11. The fighting that starts at 1:25 is put together very well.

Best Overview Runner Up: The Red by Shoopdancer (Award)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - episodic - 3x04 "Beauty and the Beasts"
Obsessive24: I really enjoyed the movement in this vid, and the use of red is striking and effective. I loved the composition of the overlay at 0:36, and the zooming-in starting at 0:49.
Txlsplash: A very cool episodic video, with lots of great effects and overlays throughout that enhance the movement. I love the zooming overlay at 0:31, 0:43, 1:23, and the shot at 1:32.

Awards for Excellence
Awarded to videos that did not win awards in the conventional categories, but both judges thought were outstanding. Presented in no order.

Awakening by Kamyar (Award)
Ultraviolet - action/character study - Violet
Obsessive24: An excellent action video. Great cutting and cool colour effects make it an extremely entertaining watch, and there's a fantastic sense of dynamics all through.
Txlsplash: This video is so intense and action-packed. The way the action clips are cut together, especially during the choruses, makes for incredible movement. She almost looks like she's dancing a lot of the time. I love the coloring at 1:18, and the action segment at 1:33-1:35, and my favorite part is from 2:38 to 2:44.

To the End by Di (Award)
Stargate SG-1 - action/overview - season 9
Obsessive24: A well-edited vid with an excellent sense of dynamics! I love the flow, and all the on-beat action.
Txlsplash: A very nice overview of the show. I like the part at 1:30, the action at 1:49 and the segment starting at 2:27 with the explosion.

Unfaithful by Nida (Award)
The O.C. - AU/narrative/shipper - Summer/Seth, Summer/Ryan
Obsessive24: I love how well the AU narrative came through in this vid, it shows off an in-depth knowledge of source. A very believable and well-constructed AU vid with a lovely sense of musicality.
Txlsplash: Since I have never seen the O.C., I didn't even realize this video was AU until Nicky told me. That's how convincing it is! The familiarity with the clips is shown by how the source is manipulated to tell such a plausible story.

Awards for Achievement in Vidding
Judges' picks from videos that did not win awards in the above categories. Presented in no order.

Obsessive24's Picks:

Backstabber by Zohar (Award)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - relationship study - Buffy & Faith
I love the juxtaposition between the light song and the darker subject matter, and the crisp cutting and internal motion. I especially liked the build-up of pace and jump cuts around the 2:00 mark.

Epic Love Trailer by Sonya (Award)
Veronica Mars - shipper/trailer - Veronica/Logan
A dynamic trailer with great pacing and internal motion. The build-up of tension is well-handled, and I really liked the use of text. If the movie were real, I'd totally go see it!

Luv Luv Luv by Morgan (Award)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel/Manchild/VR5 - humour
This vid made me laugh so hard. A large part of the comedy goes down to the fantastic over-literalness of lyric interpreation; I especially liked the clip matches to "we've been fed too much bull about love" and "I'm a sucker just like you". The yawning and "grr" parts had me in stitches. I also thought the pace of the cutting in the chorus really helped the overall mood.

Devil by lexi (Award)
One Tree Hill - overview - Dan in season 3
An exciting video with neat cutting and moments of internal motion. I appreciate the difficulty in vidding a drama show like One Tree Hill, and thought this was a great example of how to make an effective vid from difficult source. I especially liked the ending.

Txlsplash's Picks:

Gunn! by whoisnorml (Award)
Angel - action/character study - Gunn
I love the grungy, action feel of this video. There is a lot of great internal movement, especially in the fight scenes. I like the zoom at 1:29 with the squeaky guitars, and the next fight scene is cut so that the flow isn't interrupted, and the action doesn't falter. I love the fight starting at 2:03.

Things I'll Never Say by Leanna (Award)
Veronica Mars - shipper - Veronica/Logan
A great sense of movement here, driven home by the crossfades and the overlays. Because so many smaller, less eventful moments are shown throughout the video, the vidder shows a great familiarity and understanding of the source.
