Best Video: Fly Away From Here by Corn_Child (Award) Fandom: Firefly - general Obsessive24: This vid always gives me shivers. It's got so much emotion behind it, an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia and hope. It's a perfect overview of the series, with gorgeous editing, timing and clip choice. You seem to have an incredibly intuitive confidence when it comes to applying effects and changing clip speed, sometimes quite reminiscent of anime vidding. There are many key moments, but my favourite part is probably the neat transition at 1:21, it's so fresh and interesting. And the overlay at 3:21 is extremely well-placed. Txlsplash: This video makes me incredibly nostalgic for Firefly. It encompasses everything that the show was, and the love between the characters is very evident. The editing is spot on, and the effects are very appropriate and simple. Best Video Runner Up: It's My Life by Basketkase543 (Award) Fandom: Spider-Man (films) - general/action Reviewed below. *** Best Action: It's My Life by Basketkase543 (Award) Fandom: Spider-Man (films) - general/action Obsessive24: This is a fantastic vid with awesome on-point action editing. The song is very dynamic in terms of pace, and your choice of footage really shows that off to great advantage. I like how it covers both movie villains in a clear, action-packed manner, building on Spiderman's character along the way. My favourite bit is at 1:32: wonderful lyric match as well as great timing. Txlsplash: An extremely well edited video. It's a perfect example of how you don't need tons of effects to make an incredibly exciting, fast-paced video. The clip selection is excellent and fits perfectly with the dynamics. I love the chorus starting from 1:48. I also really like how at 3:19 it seems like the motion from the first clip leads into the next. There is no Best Action Runner Up for this round. *** Best Mood Piece: Temporary Secretary by yorkshirewench (Award) Fandom: Secretary (film) - general Obsessive24: An innovative and well-edited video. A great choice of footage and the song selection is wonderful. There is a real sense of tongue-in-cheek about this vid, making it very enjoyable to watch. Txlsplash: A very humorous and well edited video. The lyrics-clip matches and transitions add to the whimsical nature of the video. The video piqued my interest in the film, so well done! Best Mood Piece Runner Up: Ghost Boy by Fabella (Award) Fandom: Supernatural - Character study - Sam Reviewed below. *** Best Narrative (joint winners, presented in no order): There's Only Me by Becky (Award) Fandom: Smallville/Batman (crossover) - AU/shipper - Chloe/Lex, Chloe/Bruce Obsessive24: Let's all bow down to the queen of AU storytelling. The start with the newspaper clipping is a touch of pure genius. I loved all the photo montages used in this vid, as well as your signature video composites. Lovely dynamics and use of the music. I really liked the overlay at 0:53, and the climax where the fight scenes are juxtaposed with the love scenes. The thing I especially love about this vid, though, is the fact that there's so much insight into the character relationships even though it's completely AU; it's an incredible feat and really speaks to your sensitivity to visual nuances. Txlsplash: The second in the series of an incredibly well edited AU Batman-Smallville story. I can see that a lot of time and effort that went into this video to make the story very believable. The Green-Eyed Monster by Little Heaven (Award) Fandom: Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer - AU - Buffy/Angel Obsessive24: Wonderfully clear AU storytelling, with great clip choices and masterful editing. The dream sequence in the bridge is extremely well done. I especially loved the lyrics-based Darla/Buffy overlay at 0:23, and the clip speeds at 1:54. Txlsplash: An extremely well edited AU video. I really enjoyed watching this unseen side of Buffy and Angel's relationship. *** Best Shipper: There's Only Me by Becky (Award) Fandom: Smallville/Batman (crossover) - AU/shipper - Chloe/Lex, Chloe/Bruce Reviewed above. Best Shipper Runner Up: Saving Me by Ana (Award) Fandom: Lost - shipper - Kate/Jack Obsessive24: Lovely editing: it's always on-point, and a great sense of pace comes through with the clip choices, particularly in the slower bits. I especially liked the clip/music match around 2:40, it had really nice emotional impact. Txlsplash: A very well edited video. I also like the bit at 2:43, and also the instrumental part around 2:00. *** Best Insight: Ghost Boy by Fabella (Award) Fandom: Supernatural - character study - Sam Obsessive24: What an unbelievably haunting video. I've never seen Supernatural yet the character insight just radiates off this vid. My lack of knowledge of the fandom notwithstanding, you chose some very beautiful clips and melded them perfectly with the song. I liked the colour effects, it made things a little unreal and very unique-looking. The mirror shot at 1:05 is beautifully well-timed, and the reverse shot at 1:31, followed by the long blackness, is incredibly evocative. Txlsplash: A very surreal video. The effects add to this feeling, especially the green filter and the green flashes. I'm definitely intrigued to see the show. Best Insight Runner Up: Smooth Criminal by Martouf Marty (Award) Fandom: 24 - character study - Nina Obsessive24: Despite not having seen 24 before I got a good feel for the character. I especially like the movement in the clips you chose; it's really neat how this vid is driven along pretty much by nothing but the internal movement of the original footage and great, clean editing. Cutting primarily on the snare beat was very appealing and added interest to the piece. My favourite part is the sequence beginning with the fast cuts at 2:23. Txlsplash: I love the editing style in this video. Even though the clips don't have a lot of action, the way the cutting and the song go together even make walking seem extremely exciting. I haven't seen the show, but the tension between the characters seems wonderful! *** Best Overview: Fly Away From Here by Corn_Child (Award) Fandom: Firefly - general Reviewed above. I love the use of effects, especially the black and white shots starting at 1:22, that looked extremely cool and worked well with the music. The overlays are utilised sparingly and when they are used they are always with precision and purpose. Txlsplash: A very good narration of the events of Kill Bill from start to finish. The action clips are very well placed. I really like the driving overlay at 1:48. Metaphor by Foomatic (Award) Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - shipper - Willow/Tara Obsessive24: I've always loved this song, and it was difficult to try and judge without bias! That said, this video is very well edited and is certainly not short on intrinsic goodness. The use of rhythm and effects are all beautifully done; I love the start with the repeating clip of the university directory. The overlays at 1:52 are especially evocative. Very romantic and lovely overview of the relationship over season 4. Txlsplash: I loved the effects that Foomatic used in this video. From bright glowy transitions to fuzzy filters (at 0:40), they add a magical feel to the video. And the video is about magic, so that works well. I really like the part starting at 1:34.
