Best Video: The Boy Was a Puppet by Fabella (Award)
Harry Potter (1-4) - character study - Harry
Obsessive24: A commentator once said this is the Harry Potter vid to measure all other Harry Potter vids by, and I'm inclined to agree. This is, simply put, one of the most nuanced and masterful vids that I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. I loved the way you linked clips using similarities in content, positioning, movement and metaphor. The editing is unerringly sophisticated, with careful attention paid to shifts in dynamic and tone, using a mixture of cutting and motion. The use of objects and peripheral clips set the tone beautifully throughout. Characterisation is fantastic, and is perfectly pitched emotionally. There are way too many key moments to timestamp, but I'll try to pick out some of my favourites: I loved the zooming in at 1:52, the use of the light at 1:58, the eyes at 2:00, the point of the sword at 2:08, the light on the beat at 2:09, cutting closer into the same clip at 2:11, the flowers on the ride cymbal at 2:13... the hands sequence from 2:53 - 2:56 is genius, as is the falling sequence from 3:07 - 3:18, the positioning/movement of the clips from 3:26 - 3:31, followed by the close-up on the windowpane, the gorgeous audio-synced movement at 3:35 and the whole fight sequence after, and toward the end with the bluebird sequence. This is a brilliant video, one that deserves many re-viewings over time.
Txlsplash: The clip choice and the internal motion in this video is simply astounding. The flow of the music and the beautiful clips go together in an almost poetic way. The pace works extremely well. The effects add a lot to the video, but it is primarily the selection of clips and the use of internal motion that make watching so enjoyable. A couple favorite moments: the overlay at 0:43, the leaf falling at 1:02 (introduces the chorus beautifully), the motion starting at 1:15, the flying dementors at 1:47, the zoom at 2:11, the changing between the crowd scenes at 2:14, the beautiful instrumental section at 2:41 which matches the clips wonderfully, the falling starting at 3:08, the clip starting at 4:01, and the birds at the end. Beautifully put together.

Best Action: Sex, Violence, and Cylons by Martouf Marty (Award)
Battlestar Galactica (new) - overview/action/humour
Obsessive24: To me, this vid epitomises comedic vidding. I'm in constant awe of the way you take clips and make them fit the lyrics in a way that no one could have ever intended, yet it works wonderfully. In this vid, the clips you chose are all very dark and cruel, but the lyric associations made the overall tone hilarious, with a fantastic sense of irony all through. On top of that, the action is non-stop and I love the on-point editing!
Txlsplash: Once again, Martouf Marty does a wonderful job matching lyrics to funny clips while at the same time creating excellent internal and external motion. The song accentuates the very well edited, fast-paced action. I'm a big fan of the introduction to this video - the walking fits the music very well. As soon as the lyrics come in, the video jumps into gear. I love the action sequence starting at 0:34. It goes so well with the change in dynamics. I like the walking clip at 0:41. I love the sodomy line at 1:18. I like the segment starting at 2:01. The change in pace at 2:10 is also great. I like the on-beat punch at 2:35, and the ensuing sex scenes are cut in a very seductive manner. Yay!

Best Action Runner Up: Hands on the Bible by Jessie Amadio (Award)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - action/character study - Faith
Obsessive24: The thing I really like about this vid is how great the pace is, how beautifully it builds up throughout the course of the vid. I loved the intercutting of the knife at 0:23, the reverse motion starting at 1:28, and the brief close-up shots in the fill at 1:41. I'm usually not a fan of colour effects, but I enjoyed them in this vid because they added such a sense of surreal insanity, and I thought they worked particularly well with the fast cutting and interspersed black flickers. Excellent lyric interpretation too!
Txlsplash: I love the way the action goes with the beat of the song. Some especially noteworthy effects in this video are the reversed clips and the black flashes. The reversed clip at 0:17 and the following black flashes between the bloody shots make the section very intense. The party flashes at 0:22 are very flashy and pretty. I like the section starting at 0:46, because the intense music works very well with the action sequences, especially the one with Connor. The "addict" line is also very well done. And yay for the shower scene - it's very powerful. The slow motion walk with the flashes at 1:09 is excellent. One of my favorite segments is at 1:27 - all of the reversed clips look so natural going backwards. The black flashes at 2:22 work very well. The buildup at 2:59 going into the screaming clip is incredibly effective.

Best Narrative: Blade by Aimee (Award)
Angel - AU movie trailer
Obsessive24: The attention to detail in this vid is astonishing. Every single nuance of the alternate audio source is perfectly matched to the visuals, and I can't imagine how much time it must have taken to do. On top of that, the AU narrative is carried off superbly, demonstrating a fantastic in-depth knowledge of source. A truly incredible and innovative effort!
Txlsplash: The video feels like a very real trailer you might see in the theaters and the audio matches up superbly! The video shows Angel in very epic proportions. I like the shot of Drusilla at 0:38 - very chilling! Angel's grappling hooks are also very nifty, and his sword spinning at 1:00 matches the audio perfectly. The fighting hits at 1:17 are right on. The clip before the credits is a wonderful choice to end the trailer.

Best Narrative runner up: No Ordinary Love by foomatic (Award)
Lost & Delirious - narrative/character study - Paulie
Obsessive24: The clean narrative of the vid made it extremely easy to follow, despite my not knowing the source at all. I loved the motion of the bird at 0:42, and how it parallels the eyes in the clip that came after. The use of colouring is very effective and the high-contrast really pushed the sense of growing instability. I also liked the sequence starting at 2:16, with the multiple cross-fades. I loved the quick pull-out at 4:04, and the ensuing jump cuts.
Txlsplash: The video tells the story in a very effective and clear way. It's not difficult to decipher what is happening, but the video itself doesn't lose any effectiveness because of it. The flashes starting at 0:53 work very well. I really like the bright effect used on the beat starting at 1:04. The dialogue at 3:22 fits very well in the video, outlining what seems to be the main point of the movie. I love the segment starting at 4:03 with the quick zoom-out and the bright effect. The ending is also very beautiful. The video went from happy love to painful love in a very short time, and it was done beautifully.

Best Shipper: Be Yourself by Milly (Award)
Dr Who (2005) - overview/shipper - Rose/Doctor
Obsessive24: What a well-edited, entertaining video! The lyric associations are constantly on-point, and it is a fantastic in-depth study of Rose's relationship to the Doctor and how it has evolved. I liked the transition between the two similar clips at 0:52, the neat cutting/external motion to the drum fill at 1:56, and how that was echoed in the guitar bridge starting at 2:31. I also loved the faster cuts around 2:45 that really picked up the pace. Structurally, I liked the ending and how it brought the narrative to a neat conclusion.
Txlsplash: I've never seen Doctor Who, but this video made me attached to the characters anyways! Their lives seem like a big, fun adventure. And it seems like they were enjoying a lot of it. There are a lot of happy moments in the video. I especially like the segment starting at 2:31. I like the transition from the field to the ending segment at 3:31.

Best Shipper Runner Up: Fields of Gold by Nicole (Award)
Brokeback Mountain - narrative/shipper - Jack/Ennis
Obsessive24: A tender and emotional video. I liked how the colouring on certain clips echoes the title/lyrics for added emphasis, especially the colour transition into the fade to black around 3:28. I also really liked the connections you made through clip content, such as 2:03, the sequence starting at 2:17 and the truck around 2:25.
Txlsplash: A very touching and clear story. The pace is excellent and the song works extremely well with the clips. Some of the clips are very beautiful, like the field at 0:19 and 0:26. I like the sequences at 0:48 and 2:10. 3:02-3:10 is very scenic also.

Best Insight: The Boy Was a Puppet by Fabella (Award)
Harry Potter (1-4) - character study - Harry
Reviewed above.

Best Insight Runner Up (joint runners-up, presented in no order):

Save Me by Beasley Jr
(Award)
Angel - relationship studies/arc overview - Angel, Darla, Cordelia, Connor
Obsessive24: A heart-wrenching look into the relationship storylines and where they intersect. The colour effect in the intro is beautiful. I love all the added external motion, which gives the vid a very smooth flow. I particularly liked how it was used in conjunction with cross-fades in the sequence starting at 1:45. I really enjoyed the smooth way Cordelia's downfall was communicated through the transition by cutting between the two clips at 1:07, and Connor's development in a similar vein at 2:41. The inset at 1:16, and how the camera goes into the picture, is very neat, and I loved the "Peter Pan" lyric match. This is an extremely thoughtful and sensitive video.
Txlsplash: I really love all of the parallel stories in this video. The Angelverse is full of people who need saving, and that was captured wonderfully in this video. The first clip of black and white Darla with the red lipstick is wonderful. The next shots of Cordelia and Connor introduce the characters who need saving. The overlays work wonderfully for the first section of the video. I love the cutting between the flashing and Cordelia with white eyes at 1:06. The teddy bear shot at 2:38 is excellent. Aw. And how the baby Connor dissolves into the teen Connor is very well done.

Awards for Excellence
Awarded to videos that did not win awards in the conventional categories, but both judges thought were outstanding. Presented in no order.

Christian Bale: Bond Style by Kristin (Award)
Various Christian Bale movies - action/AU James Bond film trailer
Obsessive24: A great selection of clips went into this trailer, making the AU context extremely convincing. The editing is clear-cut with wonderful movement and dynamics. I especially loved the intro with the close-up of the eye, and thought the lighting effects worked really well there.
Txlsplash: A very bad-ass, kick-butt and other rear-end phrased video. The clips are presented in a believable James Bond way. You've got the expensive Bond tuxes, you've got the ladies, and you've got the kicking ass. The video is a mixture of all these things. The quick black flashes definitely add a lot to the intensity. I like the flashes at 0:30. I also like the clip right after that (Bond has gone all out!). 0:45-0:48 is also very cool. Very cool title screens as well!

Vitamin R by Ringwench (Award)
Supernatural - episodic/narrative - 1x14 "Nightmare"
Obsessive24: Wonderful editing, with a lot of smooth, intuitive internal motion. I was sucked in immediately with the sinister mood of the intro. I found this vid especially impressive considering its nature as an episodic, which usually means very limited source to work with. But you used the footage beautifully, taking time to focus on setting and mood. I especially liked the editing on the drum fills starting at 1:48 and going through to ~1:56.
Txlsplash: Great use of a single episode! The video told a story from start to finish, and did it well. I like the segment starting at 1:20. Oh, and knife to eye! Yikes. I really like the conclusion of the video as well.

Move Along by becca (Award)
Lucky Number Slevin - action/narrative
Obsessive24:Great narrative and excellent upbeat editing! I really liked the sense of motion in this vid, especially the added zooms on certain clips. I loved the internal motion around the 1:56 mark, and the explosion at 2:03.
Txlsplash: Great external motion and on-beat cutting. I haven't seen the movie, so I was very intrigued as to what was going on in the video. It seems like the video is a narrative of the movie. The love story is what sticks out the most. I like the part beginning at 2:19 with the change of dynamics.

Scar Tissue by whereistheluv (Award)
The Virgin Suicides - narrative
Obsessive24: I enjoyed the cutting in this vid, as well as the lovely overlays and how you keep cutting to and from particular shots, it really lent the vid an extra layer of resonance. What I enjoyed the most was around 2:35, where the narrative has moved beyond the Trip segment, but it cuts back to him for a brief moment to bring the structure full circle. I also felt it was very emotionally striking to end on the "eternal flame" shot.
Txlsplash: Very well edited narrative. I'm not familiar with the source, but the clip choice is lovely. The story very quickly goes from order to disorder. I like the zoom at 0:47. The overlay and the following clips at 1:00 is beautiful.

The Middle by Elvira (Award)
Napoleon Dynamite - humour/narrative
Obsessive24: Lovely cutting and great retelling of a hilarious movie. I especially enjoyed how well you used the camera movement in the source footage, and the way you utilised the intro.
Txlsplash: A very funny video. I haven't seen the movie, but I can understand the basic premise. I love the introduction. The intermittent dancing scenes add a lot of humor and fun to the video.

Do Your Thing by Shoopdancer (Award)
Various movies - humour/dancing
Obsessive24: A great upbeat vid! I love the way you timed all the motion to the music, that must have taken very long to do, but it's worth it in the end product.
Txlsplash: This video is a lot of fun! You gathered a lot of scenes from tons of different movies to give it a diverse feel. And the dancing always fits with the speed/dynamics of the music! Very well done.

Awards for Achievement in Vidding
Judges' picks from videos that did not win awards in the above categories. Presented in no order.

Obsessive24's Picks:

Breathe Me by Brad (Award)
Firefly/Serenity - character study - River
I liked the feel of the clip selection, with a lot of attention paid to abstract images and use of light. The mood setting is gorgeous, and I liked the concepts behind the vid structure, they are incredibly well thought-out. River's longing for a kind of "Kayleeness", and the food sequence in particular, are brilliantly done. I also loved the jump cuts at 3:20. This vid provides layered insight into a complex character from a unique perspective.

Bawitaba by whoisnorml (Award)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - action
Excellent action editing and internal motion. I really enjoyed the clever lyric matches, especially "northern lights, southern comfort" and "all the crackheads, the critics, the cynics, and all my heroes at the methadone clinic". The "bang bang" at 2:44 was great.

Txlsplash's Picks:

She's a Lady by yorkshirewench (Award)
The Taming of the Shrew (BBC 2005) - humour/shipper - Kate/Petruchio
Very funny video. The irony in the lyric-clip matches make me laugh. I have to say that the lady scares me to no end, though. I love the line "she always knows her place, she's got style, she's got grace" - it fits perfectly with the clip of her incredibly angry face (while she's scratching someone?). I also love the line "always something nice to say, what a blessing" matched with her flipping off the guy.
