Welcome to my activities page.  All of the following activities are here to help you work with the grammar and vocabulary of Chapter 6 of Looking Ahead 3.  Most of the activities are based on readings from the chapter or the Grammar and Language Reference.  The exact page numbers are provided for your convenience.  Feel free to read them again to refresh your memory before proceding with the activity!

Vocabulary Activities - 
Idomatic English
   
1. Idomatic English I -  "School Speak"    This gap filling activity is based on Learning and Grades (Survey) (pp.166-167).  You will be using some of the idomatic language found in the world of the university. 
6.Idiomatic English II   This matching exercise will help you with some of the idiomatic phrases found in the readings.  (pp.169 - 171)
 
7.Body Parts   Chapter 6's second reading included a lot of body parts. Practise your knowledge of phrases and collocations with this multiple choice quiz. (pp. 169 -171)
 
Vocabulary Activities - Working with Word Families  
2.Word Families1: Participate   This is a matching exercise to test your knowledge of the various possible forms of the word PARTICIPATE. (pp. 166-167)
 
8.Word Families 2 - Require   This fill-in-the-blank exercise revolves around the word REQUIRE and its word family. (pp. 169 - 171)
 
10.Word Families Crossword 1 Work with word families from SYMBOLIC and PREDICTABILITY in crossword form. (pp. 169 -171)
 
11.Word Families Crossword 2   A second crossword to test your word family vocabulary skills - this time from IDENTIFY, COMMITTED, and CONSTRUCT. (pp. 169 - 171)
 
Grammar Activities
3.Modal Matching   This is a matching exercise to clarify your understanding of the strength in usage of the modal verbs. (pg. 244 - 6C)
 
4.Modal Quiz   This mini fill-in-the-blank exercise asks you to use the correct modal verb in a sentence, depending on the strength the sentence requires. (pg. 244- 6C)
 
5.Sentence Scrambles   Use these scrambled sentences to work your understanding of modal verb placement within a sentence. (pg. 244 - 6C)
 
9.Should/Must/Have    Think you know when to use should and when to use must or have to?  Try this fill-in-the-blank activity to stretch your knowledge. (pg. 244 - 6C)

15.Modals controlling strength of generalizations   This multiple choice exercise works with modals and how they are used in writing to control the strength of generalizations. (pg. 243 - 6B)
 
12.Controlling Strength of Generalizations    This fill-in-the-blank activity exercises your understanding of the use of adverbs of frequency and quantifiers to control the strength of generalizations in writing. (pg. 242 - 6B)
 
13.Ode to Activity 6-18: past and present time    An electronic version of the book activity,a fill-in-the-blank exercise working espcially with past time.  (pg. 242  - 6B)
 
14.Adverbs of Frequency    If you have trouble with word order when using adverbs of frequency, this short answer exercise is for you. (pg. 242 - 6B)
