Here I have begun to add the skin to the trike. I have added the skin to the area where the main seat will be. There will be storage area here, this too is where Floyd (Supertriker), has put the storage on most of his trikes. I will come on too the front with this and set the tank on top.
Here is another shot from the front to show the overall shape of the skin on the trike. I took the skin in, now I will bring it back out to fit under the tank I have built.
I have been working on more of the skin for the front of the trike. I put both sides and the front on. I am working back toward the seat area now.
Here is another shot from another angle. I sat the tank on to show how it will sit eventually. I am building up a frame inside the tank to keep water from blowing under it and flooding the storage area, but still give me access to the things that are under the tank.
Another shot from the front to show how I am putting the skin on the front also. I am ready to begin working on the main seat area. I will probably start on that area tomorrow.
Here I have cut the plate for the seat mount. I welded a piece of 1" angle on each side to strengthen it. I also have tacked the front mount onto this plate. This is the only place the seat will attach to the trike. The back will rest on rubber bumpers, then all I have to do to slide the seat back, is pull out the bolt and reposition the seat about 2 1/2". I had to make a cut out in the plate for a bolt on my back rest, too fit into. This plate will be hinged to the side and this will be for storage and access to my controls.
This is a close up of the seat mount. It is just 2 pieces of 1" angle welded onto the plate.
Here you can see the bottom of the seat. It is an old Harley seat, but I won't hold that against it. ha You can see the bolt here for the back rest. This is the reason for the slot in the mounting plate. Up front you can see the round tube where the bolt will go through to hold the seat to the plate.
This is a shot showing the back rest I am building. It will fold over for better access to the rear seat, which also will raise up.
Her I have started to mount the tank. I welded a tab on the front and one on the back. This is the one on the back. I have a 1/2" bolt welded onto the trike to hold the tank on.
This shows the front tab for mounting the tank. I think I will drill and tap the neck for a stainless steel bolt. The tank will be for looks and to hide the electric devices, light relays, horn relays, fuses etc.
This shows the seat back folded over.
Here is the tank and seat mounted on the trike. I still have some final welding on these items and then I will move on back to the back seat and the rear end of the trike. Since Floyd from Texas is comeing to visit next wk. I probably won't get much done on the trike. I will be rideing the first trike I built. He is bringing Don from Arkansas with him, and maby another, not for sure. We plan on rideing the Dragon (route 129) into the Smoky Mountains. See link on home page to route 129. Will take pictures of the trip and post later.
