Kanshiwa Bunkai Down
Kanshiwa Bunkai Down is an extension of Kanshiwa Bunkai Front where the
concept is to demonstrate the techniques of Kanshiwa kata in a real environment.
Whereas Kanshiwa Bunkai Front simply reacts to the attack from the uki, Kanshiwa
Bunkai Down takes the movement one step forward as a continuation to the
defense. It should be noted that these techniques do not assure victory, but
they do give the practitioner a sense of options when he or she gets involved in
a conflict.
It should also be cautioned that this text is for the sole purpose of
remembering the order of the movements and the techniques. DO NOT TRY THEM AT
HOME WITHOUT SUPERVISION OF A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTION.
Uki & Tori: Bow to the sensei and the to each
other. Tori turns to the front in post position.
Uki: Throws a left punch to the shoulder (for
safety).
Tori: Turns to the Uki and blocks with a left
chudan uke, and throws a right punch to the ribs. The Tori then steps past the
Uki with his right foot, slips his left hand around the Uki's left arm (pinning
the Uki's arm against his chest), and pushes the Uki's left shoulder down to the
floor as he spins counter-clockwise with the left foot.

locked and the palm of the Uki's hand is facing up. The Tori then grabs the
Uki's left hand with both hands (thumbs on the back of the Uki's hand) and
pushes the fingers back toward the Uki's arm. The Tori then pushes the Uki away
from him.

slides a little past the Uki's right side. Placing his right hand under the
Uki's chin, the Tori kicks through the legs of the Uki from behind with his
right leg, pushing the Uki's chin with his right hand. The Uki should land right
in front of the Tori's left leg. The Tori braces the Uki's right elbow over his

arm and strikes the Uki's hip with a right forearm strike knocking the Uki to
his back. With the Uki's right foot secured under the Tori's left armpit, the

then slowly (for safety) sinks his body onto the Uki's back while maintaining
the lock on the foot.

the Tori.

throwing a right high punch to the nose. The Tori then steps to the Uki's left
and pulls the Uki's left hand straight while striking the Uki's head with a
right elbow. After the strike, the Tori reaches across the Uki's body to his
