10-11-09... This is a little late, but I wanted to say waht a great weekend we had with Sensei Robert Campbell (my sensei). Coming in from Hong Kong, it is always great working with him and gaining valuable information. The best part was this year's seminar was open to all adults, and many in the dojo took advantage of his visit.
Also, I wanted to congratulate Jesse MacPhail and Joshua Phillips for passing the belt test sensei Campbell held. Josh was well complemented by sensei Campbell making everyone very proud. Congrats both of you!
Look to the near future for seminars we plan to have in and around the area!
Lastly, the King of the Mat competition is going to be on October 24, 2009 at the dojo. Please look at the times for your division so that everyone arrives on time.
9-8-09...We have a very busy schedule in this month as Sensei Treem, my jujitsu instructor, is coming down on Saturday (9/12) for a seminar. The cost is $10.00 to cover his expenses.
On Friday, 9-25-09, Sensei Campbell will be hosting his seminar, which is open to all adults. It will be held at Jesse MacPhail's dojo in East Bridgewater. After the workout, we will be going out for a bite to eat across the street.
On Saturday, 9-26-09, we will be at Sensei Campbell's annual dinner in Weymouth. This is invitation only.
7-7-09...Because of the move downstairs and my schedule, I'm going to put the newsletter on the webpage for the summer. Please go to the link below for the newsletter and calendar:
July Calendar
July Newsletter
5-27-09...Contratulations to Nick D'Alessandro, Isabella Guerero, Sahlu Louslged, and Ethan Phillip for testing successfully for Gokyu and Junior Gokyu. They all did very well and should be extremely proud.
I want to thank those people who have been helping with the downstairs dojo. Your help is very much appreciated. There is still a tremendous amount to be done, but we are making what headway we can. The ceiling will be up very soon and the walls and outside window will be decorated within the next couple of weeks. I would like to bring the mirrors down real soon, but that will take some real manpower if you are up to it.
Summer is coming up fast and I like to schedule tests when I can so that people can have as much time to prepare. Please watch for test dates. There is a big jujitsu test in June. Make use of your time!!
I want to thank the instructors for their help in covering classes when my son was in the hospital. Hey, that's what families are for, right?! Thanks guys!
5-7-09...Unfortunately, there is no newsletter this month. To tell the truth, I just couldn't get to it this month because of my school schedule as well as anything else. I apologize for this inconvenience. I will include much of the information in next months newsletter.
Also, the tournament has been postponed for some reason. If I find ouf the reason I will pass it along.
Downstairs is moving along. The painting of the dojo portion is done and the ceiling is next to go up. Jack and Jay are doing a great job! Anyone that can help out, please talk to them. General clean up is still going on, so you don't have to know the construction craft.
Lots of tests coming up in the next few months. Be prepared and look for your name on the board by my office!
thanks!
3-18-09...News, news, news! Yep, there is plenty of it:
1. The dojo is moving downstairs. I don't know exactly when as I am a captive of other people doing the work, and who are doing the work on their own time. So, we'll all have to be patient. It should be an exciting time though.
2. King-of-the-Mat is on for April 4, 2009 in East Bridgewater at the dojo of my student Jesse MacPhail sensei. Every child will get something just for competing. I've held it at my dojo for the last 5 years and we've always had a good time. I hope many of you will be able to participate. I'll send the hours and time to everyone, along with directions to his dojo. Registration forms are in the dojo.
3. The Uechi-ryu Karate Association Hong Kong tournament will be held May 9, 2009 in Weymouth. As soon as I get all the details, the sooner I'll be able to pass them along to you.
4. Watch for promotion lists and dates, as well as seminars at the dojo coming up real soon. The Spring is shaping up to be real exciting.
1-12-09...HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. With the new year, comes new news, events, happens, etc...The big story is we are moving the dojo downstairs to street level. This is great news as I have wanted to do that for many years, but haven't had the resources or opportunity. Thanks to a wonderful landlord we will make it possible. I'm sure all the people who hate lugging it up the stairs night in and night out will appreciated the change. The target date is March 1 (tentative); therefore, I'm going to need any and all help possible to move what we have upstairs to the new location. We have to wait for some construction to happen, but that will be quick (so I'm told). I can't wait.
In other news, we have some tests coming up in a couple of weeks, so study hard!
We will also have a temporary shift in what night people are teaching. I'll keep you informed.
12-19-08...>I'm sorry I haven't written anything lately, but the server was having difficulty that wouldn't allow me to edit anything. They finally fixed it the other day. So...........
I would like to congratulate all those who have tested within the last couple of months. The tests are becoming stronger and stronger which makes me very proud. I would like to give a special congrats to Esthanette Reid for passing her Junior Shodan though. She worked really hard to make this happen and she should be very proud of herself. I know everyone here is!
On a final note for 2008, I would like to wish everyone a very happy and healthy holiday season. I am anxiously awaiting the new year to witness the progress you make.
10-5-08...I should have written about Sensei Campbell's visit sooner, but everything is such a whirlwind when he comes in. Anyway, Sensei Campbell gave us a tremendously informative seminar that makes people look at their Uechi-ryu a little bit differently.
More importantly, the annual test was fabulous. Norm Abrahamson earned his Rokudan (6th Dan) as well as his Renshi (master instructor). What a great achievement by our very own. But the highlight of the test was Taylor Brennan's shodan test. Sensei was extremely impressed with Taylor's form. He talked about her all evening. I hope next year he holds an event for everyone!
Congratulations to the following for an exceptional performance on the latest Jujitsu Test (check out for pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/marykringuet/NikkiS_Jujitsu_brownbelt?authkey=D0EzVntkuA8#):

9-13-08...>This is the big week for many of us at Uechi-ryu America. Sensei Campbell is flying in this week. It's always great to see your sensei and work out a little and catch up on things. I apologize that Sensei Campbell's accessibility is somewhat limited this year, but it's about time he spent the major portion of his trip with his family.
Congratulations to our new higher ranks. They all did a fabulous job. Promoted were:
Junior Shodan
Arnav Chatterjee
Gaurav Chatterjee
Jean-Luc Ringuet
Junior Sankyu
Kevin Mehdizadeh
Junior Gokyu
Kellie Delaney
Huy Tran
Mara Loulseged
Gokyu
Mary K Ringuet
8-20-08...>What a great summer this has been thus far! So much has been happening that it is hard to remember it all. First of all, congratulations to Jimmy Jaques for passing his shodan (1st degree) in Nihon Jujitsu. Jimmy has worked awefully hard for this for many years. He certainly deserved it. Also, the same congratulations to Jesse MacPhail for earning his Nidan (2nd degree) in Nihon Jujitsu. Jesse has started teaching Nihon at his school in East Bridgewater, so we'll be seeing more people coming up through the ranks.
Good luck to our own sensei Norm who is going through a major lifestyle change. Norm, who has been a successful attorney for many years has decided to try his luck in the classroom as a public school history teacher. We all know what a great teacher Norm is in the dojo, now he gets to take that talent into the classroom. Life will never be the same!
As we begin to look toward school again in September, we have several students going for their junior shodan and of course, Sensei Bob Campbell's visit to the dojo on his yearly trip to the USA. Lots to come, so stay tuned.
6-30-08...Congrats to Russel K. and Alex M. for passing their karate test. They did a great job! Also, we had a very informative black belt class on Sunday where we went over Kyu Down and Kanshiwa Bunkai. It was great to have Jesse M. Sensei come over with his student to learn them.
Watch out for the month of July as we have several days off. Big test dates in August and September for karate and jujitsu. Keep your eye on the bulletin board.
6-11-08...Don't forget the special seminar this week for all black belts. Sensei Fedele Cacia will be teaching the new Shoehei-ryu kata made up by masters Takara (10th), Takimiyagi (9th), Nakahodo (10th), and many others. They named it Ryuko as a tribute to Sensei Tomoyose I believe. Hope you can make it.
Also, on the 25th of this month (Wednesday), we will be having a pizza party to celebrate my 20th year owning the dojo. The time is 6-8pm and everyone is invited. If you or the parents wish to make anything, please bring it along.
Lastly, there will be a black belt class on Sunday June 29 for all who wish to attend.
5-18-08...A very special congratulations to our very own Al Frangipane (Godan), Rob Parsons (Yondan), and Alison Cabral (shodan) for passing a very good black belt test. In front of myself, Sensei Jay Salhanick, Mike Aceto, Fedele Cacia, Steve DiOrio, and Jesse MacPhail, the candidates performed with exactness, determination, and the power and speed that makes many of us old-timers extremely jealous. Good job folks. I'm very proud of all three of you!
4-15-08...Congrats to our new junior Gokyu(s) (green belts) who tested last Saturday at the dojo. Liam Pohl, Andrew Phillips, and Joshua Burke all worked extremely hard to prepare for this test and performed one of the best tests I have seen in a long time from children of that age. They were well prepared for everything!
Next month is a busy month. We have a seminar at Sensei Fedele Cacia's dojo in Natick for anyone interested. The seminar is on Uechi kata and taught by sensei Kenny Schiff. Please contact me if you need information. Also, our own sensei Al and Rob, along with Allison Cabral will be testing for black belt at the Association's Spring Test right here at the dojo. Sensei Al will be testing for 5th dan, which is the first master's ranking. He truly is a master in his own right!. Good luck to all, you'll do great!
1-25-08...Happy New Year to everyone and what a great New Year it has been thus far. We held our first Uechi-ryu Hong Kong regional seminar at the dojo with Sensei Mike Aceto as the guest instructor. We had a great turn out from the various dojo with Sensei Mike imparting some of his vast sparring experience among the students. I hope everyone had a great time.
The next seminar is set for February at our dojo again. This time it is only for junior black belts. Sensei Fedele Cacia will be teaching and the cost is $15.00. Please look for the information at the dojo.
Plenty of testing coming up in the near future. Other than the usual kyu testing, some members of our dojo family will be testing at the next regional test this Spring. Al Frangipane will be testing for his Godan (5th dan), and Alison Cabral will be testing for her adult Shodan (1st dan).
Speaking of our Association, several changes have been made recently with Sensei Campbell's approval:
1. The age to become an adult shodan was lowered to 15yrs old.
2. There will be no more association pre-tests.
3. There will be no predetermined time-table for any who fail a dan test. It will be up to the instructor to dictate when they are ready to re-test.
12-13-07...The schedule for the new year's seminars is up and will be posted in its entirety soon. The first date is January 12, 2008 at Uechi-ryu America Karate Studio (our dojo). The guest instructor is Sensei Mike Aceto (7th Dan, Kyoshi). The seminar will be on sparring techniqes. In lieu of association dues this, all seminars will have a nominal charge which all goes to the Association. The cost of this seminar is $15.00. I hope adults and ranking juniors join me in attending Mike's seminar.
10-22-07...Just wanted to let people know that I fixed the problem with the Nijurokku and Dan kumite link. They should be up and working so if you need to practice at home.
10-17-07...>/strong>Congratulations to all those people who passed their recent Jujitsu Test: Dewey Schramm III, Alexis Wentzel, Ethan Phillips, Alex Mui, Patrick Keane, Michael Keane, Devin Lynch, and Matthew Connolly (Adult Black Belt). We are all very proud of you!
Don't forget this Saturday's KING OF THE MAT competition. We have had great results over the last four years. Every child will get a medal just for competing!! Look for the times posted in the dojo.
Yes, the rumor is true that I received my 7th degree Black Belt/Kyoshi from Sensei Campbell while he was here. It's a great honor which I feel extremely unworthy, but proud that Sensei Campbell thinks I deserve it! It's a great lesson for me to learn as I keep telling my students to "trust your sensei; he knows when you are ready." Go figure! Thank you everybody for making me a better martial artist and person.
,strong>9-25-07...What a weekend we had! Sensei Campbell visited us and I'm exhausted. Friday evening he and many of the senior students of sensei Campbell were at the dojo for a board meeting and a quick workout. He gave us plenty to think about. Saturday was our annual seminar. We held it in the spacious and beautiful Weymouth High School's gym. It was attended by approximately 100 students of all ages who had a great time participating in four 45 minute sessions. After, I went out to lunch with Sensei Campbell and a few others and boy, does that man have a story to tell (and he's not afraid to do it). From a martial arts point-of-view, the stories were awesome, but from a historical point-of-view, they were just as amazing.
When that was done, we had our annual dinner with Sensei Campbell. It was a great night of food, drink, stories, old friendships and new friendships, and of course, surprises. Lo and behold, before we even sat down to eat, Sensei Campbell gave a speech and awarded promotions to several people, including yours truly to 7th Dan Kiyoshi. Well, thanks for a great time and we'll see you again next year
9-13-07...Welcome Back to all those students who had taken some of the summer off. I hope you are all rested and eager to take up the quest again. Lots happening the next few months: (1)Sensei Campbell is visiting on Sept. 22 at the Weymouth High School. The schedule is below. (2)Sensei Porter (Jujisu) will be in Vermont at my sensei's dojo on the weekend of Sept. 29. The cost is $50.00 per day. I am looking at going for one day, so if you would like to come just let me know. (3)King of the Mat competition next month. (4)And various belt tests.
Also, there are quite a number of new students at the dojo this month, so please reach out and introdude yourself to them and make them feel welcom.

Sensei

What an amazing accomplishment that has only been done by two other members of the dojo thus far. Josh has a very bright future in the martial arts and is well on his way. Congratulations Josh!!! (pictures to follow)
