I'm sorry about the annoying Yahoo pop-up on the right side. Just
wait a minute until the page finishes loading and then click the tab on the pop-up and it

Grandma entitled this photograph "COPYCATS" in her album... |

|
They had a hayday photographing Laurel. Grandma has several photographs of
Laurel at exactly this age in her album on adjacent pages and clearly marked
"Laurel" underneath. Jeanne thought the baby in the above picture might be
Marilyn but the picture was located in the 1925 area of the album and when you compare the
baby in the picture to the other known pictures of Laurel below it is clear that she is
Laurel. Sylvia is holding her. That is Hylma on the far right, isn't it? Nora second from
the right. Mabel in the middle, and Tena between Mabel and Laurel. I would appreciate
anyone else's input. (This is one of my favorite pictures in the whole world. Isn't it
GREAT!!?)
Baby Laurel in the early spring of
1922. |
 |
Laurel in 1924. Laurel was
apparently one of the favorites to photograph back then. There is one whole page of the
album devoted to baby pictures of Laurel, six pictures on the page, and others of her
scattered throughout the other pages. |
 |

|
Grandma entitled this one "JUST
GIRLS". This has got to be one of the prettiest photographs I have ever seen. They
had considerable natural talent of composition. And beautiful hearts. I recognize my
grandmother Mabel, second from the right. Could anyone help identify the others? |

|
These 3 photos seem to have been taken on the same day in the early 1920's. I
see Mabel. In the far left picture I see Mabel second from the left. Is that Sylvia on the
far left? And is that Hylma on the far right? And Bentena second from the right holding
the puppy?

A dance... |

|
Here we have a family picnic around 1925, from grandma Mabel's album. I have
tried to identify anyone in the two pictures. I suppose the men are Uglem brothers. But I
don't know who is who. I think Mabel is on the far left, in one of the pictures. I have
enlarged her image. It's a moment in time.

Abt 1925. I think they are picking berries... Reminds me of a
Renoir oil painting. Well, actually, many of these photographs do. Unfortunately
this photo was printed on terribly inferior paper. It has taken hours of restoration to
bring it out to the shape it is in now. And I still am unable to recognize who is who.
What do you think? |
From grandma's album.
Not sure who they are...
But the picture is beautiful... |

|

|
Another from Grandma's album. She entitled it:
"Reading the Daily"
I believe Mabel is on the right. |
This one is merely entitled
"Grandma"...
Did my mother write that? So this is Johanna?
Very nice composition. |

|

|
Closeup of above |
A picture of a packed old Roadster
from grandma's album. Is this the family's Overland with the cloth top mentioned in
Hylma's book? |
 |
 |
Another beautiful photograph from
grandma's album. I have no idea who these lovelies are. Wish I knew. The picture is
actually located in a part of the album that shows Mabel with young people who are
probably not members of her family. They look more like friends from school or church. |
Anna Rodvold 1923. She graduated the same year as
Mabel. |

A winter photo of 3 sisters. |
Johanna and her daughters. Probably 1927 or
1928. |

Hylma and Esther? |

Sylvia 1920's |
Louis and Sylvia, early 1920s. |

|

|
Louis and Sylvia were married in 1924. They must have lived first
in Minneapolis because grandma has a few pages of photographs captioned "Sylvia's
Home in Minneapolis" Most of the pictures were taken in July of 1924. |
Another photo taken that July day in 1924. Mabel is missing. She
is probably the one snapping the photo. Cliff McNaughton is in the picture. This would
have been a year before Mabel married Cliff. Everyone looks so dapper in their suits and
nice dresses. This must have been a special occasion. I still don't know the date of Louis
and Sylvia's wedding, only the year, 1924. Was their wedding in July? |

|
Closeup of my grampa Cliff
McNaughton. I think the other gentleman must be Louis's father or grandfather. Perhaps one
of the descendants will write and tell me. |
 |

|
This picture was also taken at Sylvia's house, I think, as it is
in the same batch of pictures and the pillars look similar. I wish grandma was alive to
tell me who each person is in this album. She would have loved to sit with me and explain
every photo. Darn. If only I had been drawn to these things then. Because I am having a
terrible time identifying her sisters in these eighty year old photographs. This woman
does seem to me to look like Sylvia though. ??? And Louis??? |
This photo is located in the section of the album along with the
others taken at Sylvia's Home in Minneapolis. What makes this photo different is that
grandma has written this caption beneath: "Scenes of "Fairview Park" --
Minneapolis. Taken Sunday July 13, 1924." I am perplexed to understand who the two
women are exactly. At first I thought one of them was Sylvia, since all these pictures are
labeled Sylvia's house in Minneapolis. But neither one looks like Sylvia to me. I hope one
of her descendants will write and tell me. |

Julius and Nora |
Julia Mogen was born in Norway. She married
Peter Uglem in 1915. Julia taught school in Lodgepole S.D.. Their homestead was in Cole
SD, about ten miles SE of Lodgepole. They were outdoors people and rode horses every day.
They both loved to read books. Their simple home was full of books. She died of Typhoid
Fever in March of 1928 at only 42 years old. Peter must have had no reason to stay on the
homestead then, as he sold his land soon after her death. He went to Summit where he lived
until his death in 1939. |

|

|
Peter and Julia Uglem's homestead in Cole SD.
Esther remembers them raising sheep. But they are pictured here with cattle. Maybe they
tried both. If you look close you will see Peter and Julia on horseback in the photo. (The
daughter of Julia's younger brother Arthur sent me these photos.) |
Julia Mogen Uglem and her friend Miss Lundeen. |

|

|
Hylma and Benta. (Isn't it?) |
Grandma writes: "A family reunion with a
few people missing". The year is about 1926. Johanna is missing. Torsten is in the
back between two sons, John on the left and I think Calmer on the right. Esther, a
sprightly eighteen years old, is on the far left. Mabel is on the far right. Is that
Sylvia holding baby Warren? |

|

|
Julius around 1928. Grandma writes in her album
that the photograph was taken in Davenport, Iowa, and has entitled this photograph
"The Hashslinger". |
The year must be about 1928, the year Johanna died. She is sitting
on the steps with two children. I am fairly sure one of them is Laurel. Who is the other? |

|

|
Mabel and Gunda, around 1928. Gunda was Mabel's
close friend. Johnny Nelson's sister? |
Who ever would have guessed? Grandma Mabel looks like quite the
flapper here. Look at her eyes in this closeup. Fun! |

|

|
Grandma didn't write anything about this photo in her album. I
think it's Hylma and Ike in Lodgepole SD around 1929. Hopefully Gale will know, or Jill...
I will give them a call. |
Around 1927 or 1928. Johanna in the background,
smiling. |
