Marilyn and Verna Lou with Norma in Luverne, Minnesota around 1938.

Esther married Otto Kundert in 1942. Otto was a translator working with the German prisoners of war. After the war when the War Crimes trials were going on in Nuremberg he helped interrogate the Nazi ringleaders who were eventually hung. He knew them all. The stories he has! I have free long distance on my cell phone on weekends and have chatted with him on many occasions for hours. The picture on the right was probably taken around 1945.

Esther and Otto in Mabel's living room around 1950. Sonia's eyes are closed as if it is all too much for her to handle. Ha! I see the piano and sure wish grandma would play something.

Calmer_and_family_7_th.jpg (15573 bytes)

Calmer and Clara with their daughter Melva and grandchildren --around 1956. Actually, Melva's descendants have suggested it might be Virginia there instead of Melva. We await clarification on that...

Our family visited Ike and Hylma in the summer of 1957. That is Ike on the right and Kendal in the teeshirt. My mom, Norma, in the middle, and Hylma beside my mom.

Grandpa_on_left_must_be_in_LakePreston_sm.JPG (81197 bytes)

I recognize my grandfather Robert Clifford McNaughton on the far left of this picture. He looks very young. I don't see my grandmother in the picture anywhere. Maybe she is snapping the photo. I also don't recognize anyone else in the picture. I get the feeling this is a church group in Lake Preston, maybe a marriage. The remainder of the pictures on this page will mostly be old photographs of my grandmother Mabel.

Grandma Mabel was quite photogenic as a young girl. This photograph appears to have been taken when she was around 18 years old. 1923. 1923abt_YoungMable_th.JPG (6843 bytes) Here is another photo from around the same year, 1923. 1923abt_Mabel in ivy_th.JPG (8528 bytes)
I am unsure of what age she is here, but she seems to be daydreaming. Daydreaming_b_th.jpg (7713 bytes) Mabel around 1924. 1924abt_Mabel_on_bridge_b_th.JPG (7740 bytes)
Around 1925. She has written in her album beneath this photograph: "Are you happy?" 1925abt_AreYouHappy_th.JPG (8275 bytes) Mabel and Cliff picnicing at Lake Wildwood in the summer of 1927. 1927_AtLakeWildwood_th.JPG (8821 bytes)
Mabel and Norma in 1935. It appears that a very young Norma must have colored this black and white print. 1935abt_MabelandNorma_th.JPG (7592 bytes) Mabel and one of her sisters cavorting. Abt 1935. 1935abt_MabelandwhoCavorting_closeup_th.JPG (9955 bytes)

Grandpa and Grandma loved traveling through the Black Hills. Sometimes I went along with them.
