What to Live For
What do we live for? Is there are point to living for anything--or anyone?
For Ourselves?
Living for ourselves--what does that encompass? Living a life where one cares only for his/her needs and what suits one best has got to be a harsh life. I mean, how wholesome can a life be if it concentrates on only one side of things?
Love is considered a crucial part of life. Where does love come into a life lived by a selfish person? True love isn't one-sided. Love requires sacrifice, time, effort--on both sides.
Every one of us has something to offer the world and, in turn, to offer others. Okay, you might feel like you are the most untalented person ever, but try to look deeper than the obvious, easy-to-name talents like being musical, book-smart, athletic or artistic (though those are very powerful talents as well!). Maybe you have this innate ability to make people comfortable or feel accepted. Perhaps you have a way with words. Or possibly you have a super compassionate heart. Our lives are meant to be lived to share our gifts with others, not just keep them to ourselves. The great part about that is not only do we bless people around us, but we often receive more than we expect in return.
My conclusion is that life can't be lived for only yourself, because it would be a pretty pitiful existence! To live life to the fullest, we can't consider just one side of the equation (sorry for the cliche). A full life inlcudes living for others' sake too.
