Ostrich The ostrich is the world's largest bird. These birds are omnivorous. They donot fly but can run on the ground. They can sprint up to 43 miles an hour and run over distance at 31 miles an hour. They live in herds with less than a dozen birds. All the females place their eggs in the dominant hen's nest. The dominant hen and male take turns incubating the eggs. Otter The otter is a carnivorous endangered mammal. They mainly feed on fish. They can swim in water using their webbed feet. Their nostrils and ear close in the water and tails help in propelling them in the water. Young otters live in dens till they are young but grow to adult size in a year or so. Owl Owls are carnivorous nocturnal birds that hunt in the night. They are fierce and attack humans who wander close to their nest. They have a strong digestive system and are known to swallow a whole animal or bird. They prey on a wide variety of animals including rodents like rabbits, rats, bats and birds like sparrow and pigeon. Panda Pandas are carnivorous mammals that live mostly in mountains and grass lands. They are known to feed on bamboos. They are voracious eaters and eat large volumes of bamboos. They occasionally eat small birds and squirrels. They usually live solitary lives and spend most of their time eating. They are good swimmers and have got a good sense of smell. Both male and female take turns to sit on their eggs till they hatch. Porcupine The porcupine is a strange looking herbivorous mammal. It has sharp quills all over its body that makes it look prickly and rather scary. They feed on roots, stems and barks of trees. Though they usually live on the ground they can also on grasslands, deserts and forests. Raccoon The raccoon is a omnivorous mammal found just anywhere. They can eat just anything from frog and aquatic creatures to fruits and garbage thrown by humans in cities. That’s why they can exist anywhere. They live both on tree and land. They are nocturnal creatures. In winter they spend most of their time sleeping in dens. Rhino The Rhinoceros is an endangered herbivorous mammal. They have sharp hearing and sense of smell. They are massive in size and feed on leaves and grass. They have unique characteristics like a single horn and segmented amour like skin. They look ferocious but are very mild and timid. |
