A
Message to Young Families
MISSIONARIES
NEEDED
Valley
East Baptist Church has had a rich history. It was
founded by the former members of Ninth Avenue Baptist Church
when their church building was purchased by the Birmingham
Airport. The remaining group that survived the move to
Pinson was small and mostly elderly. These wonderful
believers have continued to be faithful as a church to the
Word of God. When
you visit VEBC, you will meet many of these saints of God
and learn much from their wisdom.
A
LOOK TO THE FUTURE
However,
we are all aware that our church needs younger families in
order to continue into the future as a beacon light for the
glory of Jesus Christ. There have been a few families
join our church recently, bringing their children and their
youthful vitality, which has led to an atmosphere of
excitement. I am fully aware that many local churches
offer strong and wonderful programs for young families and
their children - programs with which we simply cannot
compete . Nor should we try, since after all we are
not in competition with other churches. My prayer is
that these strong churches continue to grow and reach many
with the Gospel of Christ.
But
there are some out there who do not simply want to go to a
church in order to take advantage of the programs
offered. Some of you want to see a church
grow! Some of you want to be a part of the
growth process itself! At our small church, God has
been working and it has been wonderful to watch Him work
through this group. When Page and I (pastor Jason),
first came here, we wondered what, if anything, would
happen. We were not sure we were making the right
choice for our family. Our children were the only ones
here for quite some time. But God is faithful!
Now things have changed and we have more children on a
typical Sunday then our nursery can handle (which is about
10-15 kids). We are running out of space in our
nursery!
I
have so much enjoyed being a part of all this and I am
anxiously anticipating what God might do in the days
ahead. You might be trying to decide where to go to
church. You might be in one of the larger
congregations and feel like you are just a number, lost in
the crowd. You might be thinking that you want to take
part and be involved in the work itself. Our church
needs young families who are longing to serve God and reach
people for His glory. We need those who want to serve
as missionaries in a local church. The Pinson area is
growing rapidly and so is the need for strong churches in
the area. Maybe this is the place God has chosen for
you.
