Valentine poem

Aboard Japan Airlines

by Victor P. Gendrano

Maybe the frightened look of first-
Time flight I failed to hide
Moved you to ease me in your
Slightly small and still warm kimono
Which just a while was hugging you

Stirring memories enkindling flame
Of long repressed relentless pain
Of unrequited love banishing me
To a strange land across the sea
Where dollar reigns supreme and
Ceaseless self-gratification's
The name of the game.

In my book: RUSTLE OF BAMBOO LEAVES

But first published in Heritage magazine,
Vol. II, No. 3, September 1988
