October 1998: “Vulcan’s Many Voices Through The Art of Healing” Month long art exhibit at Base Art Gallery, Main Street, downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. All members welcome to participate, included a book of writings on exhibit by VF writers, and a Poetry reading on opening night. More than 30 artists participated. Curated by Sarah Gallant; Sponsored by Vulcan’s Forge. Post Card Project, May, 1999: Set of 11 postcards printed from works of Vulcan’s Forge Artists {chosen by a panel of 3 “outside” artists} made possible by a grant from Ohio Department of Mental Health. We’ve been selling these cards ever since. Over 1000 sets of 11. Submissions by Vulcan’s Forge participants. VF Postcards Christmas Card Project, October, 1999; selected one work from submissions to the “contest”; winning work by Diane Fowler. Cards sold by VF; $25 and 25 cards to artist. 500 printed. Most have been sold. Sponsored by Vulcan’s Forge. Summer, 1999: National Case Managers Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, Convention Center; Booth with exhibit and sales. Opening reception with keynote speakers and terrific food… 24 artists participating. Open to ALL Consumer Artists. Sponsored by the Glenn M Weaver Institute of Law and Psychiatry and the Marx Law Library. Curated by Cecelia Shooner 1999: Vulcan’s Mill: A public access TV program directed and conceived by Juan Miller to highlight VF and individual artists. Hosted by Mike Fontana, first segment including interviews with Joan Rohrer and Ron English; and works by Jenny Bauer and Sharon N.L.N. Newport Arts and Music Festival, Newport Kentucky, 2 years participation, 1999 and 2000. Booth with exhibit and sale. Open to all VF artists. Information about Consumer Groups available. Consumer Retreats at Grailville, Ohio, 1999 and 2000: Art Exhibits and Mandala and watercolor classes, Also a play written and directed by Juan Miller, and performed by the now defunct “Vulcan’s Players” Fall, 1999- Participation of 3 VF members in an exhibit at the Westin Hotel, sponsored by Easter Seals and Artists with Disabilities; Artists exhibiting: Cecelia Shooner, Lettie Davis, Patty Lawson. June, 2000: Millennium 2000, Columbus, Ohio. Booth with exhibit and Sales. Main Exhibit in Dining Room. Information about consumer groups available. October, 2001. Poetry reading at BaBa Budans Coffee house, Calhoun Street. Open to All Consumer poets and writers. Open mic for ALL interested. Conceived and Coordinated by Cecelia Shooner and Jim Wilson. Fall 2000-Spring 2001 “The Artists Way”, with facilitator Marion Corbin Mayer. 10 weeks of weekly workshops offered to 14 artists from Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Sponsored by Vulcan’s Forge, and Iris of Northern Kentucky. Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council and Very Special Arts. Works from this process exhibited at Mental Health Fair On The Square, May, 2001. May, 2002: A series of 2 Jewelry making and repair classes given by Ron Davis. More to follow. Open to all. 4 Years participation in “Mental Health Fair on the Square” {1998, 1999, 2000, 2001} Art exhibit, information on Consumner Organizations available at booth. Grants for classes at Art Academy given to interested members of Vulcan’s Forge in 2000 and 2001. June 27-30, 2002: Nami National Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. Booth for exhibit and sale. Thursday, 1 PM, June 13th : Vulcan’s Forge meets with Steve Sunderland, a social work professor at UC, to discuss possible individual and /or group participation in his project Posters for Peace. July 1, 2002, 12 Noon Recovery Initiative, Gayle Bluebird founder of Altered States of the Arts visits to discuss funding for the Arts. Thursday, July 11th, 2002: Steve Sunderland facilitates making Posters for Peace at our general meeting. The posters are to be part of a world wide Peace effort, and exhibit in September.
