PEOPLE OF THE STONE AGE
PEOPLE OF THE STONE AGE

There were three different evolutions of man before they reached the modern day humans.  Homo erectus, Homo habilis, and Homo sapiens or Neanderthals, were the three evolutions. The Paleolithic period, also known as the Old Stone Age, was the time period for the human species  major developments.. During the Paleolithic period, Homo sapiens had the major role in development of the species.

Homo erectus was the most successful in developing cultural technologies. They adapted to new enviromental opportunities. In this way Homo erectus could find better food and make their own homes. Neanderthals were the ancestors that were regarded as dim-witted brutes. Around 30,000 years ago, Neanderthals started to die out, but nobody knows why. Ultimately, Neanderthals came to be seen as important human ancestors. In 1864, William King gave them the name "Neanderthal Man."

Archeologists have found the bones of many Neanderthals,
Homo erectus, and Homo habilis. When scientists study these bones they learn more about human ancestors. Without the tools, homes, and bones that they left behind few cules would exist.

ICE AGE
The last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago; it was during the Pleistocene Epoch.  As the ice age ended water formed the great lakes located at the border between the U.S. and Canada. An interesting fact about the ice age is that definition of an ice age is, "A cold period marked by episodes of extensive glaciation alternating with episodes of relative warmpth." This means that within an ice age there can be warm periods. The ice age assisted man because during the last one a land barrier formed between Russia and Alska. This affected the people who migrated from Russia down into the North and South Americas.

STONE AGE

In man's evolution, the Stone Age came before the Bronze Age. The Stone Age was the time peroid in which man's tool-making abilities greatly expanded. During the Stone Age numerous civilizations had stone tools and were farming by 1500BC. One example of this was a civilization in Mexico and South America that cultivated corn, squash, and beans. This lead to the rise of the Inca and Aztec civilizations.  Civilizations began to emerge in the Middle Eastern areas as well as Africa. In Europe and Asia, the Stone Age led to the cultivation of cereal, including barley, wheat and millet. The Stone Age also led to the taming and raising of cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.
