Town got really quiet on the strike days!

This was the day of the big strike in San Sebastian. The rest of Spain would be primarily observing the strike on the 20th, but the Basques need to be different, I guess, so they were doing it a day early. So we stayed in bed late, lazing around and reading, eating muffins in bed, Glenn typing a few journals (he's almost caught up, that rat!), and in general relaxing. It was all grey and cloudy out anyway, so we didn't care. The only thing that would have made it better for me was a mug of tea or something hot.

Anyway, we got ready around noon and ventured out around 2pm to take a walk. Glenn gets bored fast with no physical activity, so we thought a walk around town would be helpful. We walked down to the shore, marveling at how quiet the town was. We then walked along the beach front, deciding to take one of the small hikes up either of the two hillsides at the ends of the bay, but before we got close enough, it started to rain a little. We were by then far from the hostel and nothing was open for us to duck into if a deluge started, so we decided to walk through town rather than up a hill. We wandered quite a ways back from the beach, up around some apartment complexes, overlooking the big soccer fields, etc. We also stopped into a cafe for some coffee for me, to dry off a bit and warm up a tad. It wasn't all that cold, but when you're damp you feel it more. The uphill stuff afterward turned all that into sweat, and by the time we found our way back to our end of town (the back way), we were pretty tired.

We stopped into Bocattas, a chain sandwich shop that happened to be open now that it was afternoon, and had some quick lunch. Then we went back to the hostel to relax a bit, and ended up not being hungry enough to go out to find dinner. We stayed in and read until we were ready for bed, then slept with the balcony door open and the nice cool air. Ahhh!
