06-17-02 (Continued)

After the Palacio we stopped for lunch at a pizza place. Only a few minutes from there we finally found an internet cafe that could copy our photos to a CD. We spent a litle over an hour there accomplishing the task at hand and checking e-mails. It was around 5:30 pm at this point so we ventured off towards the Parque to look for the photography exhibition. The exhibition was of works by Nan Goldin and titled "El patio del diablo". It was some very interesting work throughout this young ladies life. She has definitely experienced a much different world than I.

By now it was after 7:00 pm and we had to be back to pick up our backpacks by 8:00 pm. We stopped into a little grocery market around the corner from our hotel and picked up some munchies and water for our orvernight train ride to San Sebastian. We returned to the hostal just before 8:00 pm, getherd our bags, and huffed our way back to the train station. Even downhill the walk seemed farther than we remembered it being without backpacks. Luckily it was cooler (only 35 degree C) so we were not totally drenched by the time we arrived. We caught the next train to Chamartin and upon our arrival found seats in front of the monitor showing train departures and via's.

We had a few hours before our train departure (8:45 pm vs. 10:45 pm) so I took the chance to get more information about our last extensive train trip back to Milano. After waiting in line for more than 30 minutes the information forthcoming was limited. (The train schedules changed on the 16th of June (yesterday) but the computers had still not been updated to show any of this information.) All they could provide was information prior to the 15th or a few trains that go through Paris on there way to Milano. I asked Erin to try her luck, with her Spanish being much stronger than mine, and she returned over a half hour later with no more success than I had had. We will try again in San Sebastian later this week. By now it was 10:30 pm, we found our seats on the train and got settled in for the night. We read, dozed, and had the usual restless overnight train ride.
