(A). TOPIC: Algrbra, Application of the Best Fitting
                   Line

(B). GRADE: High School, 9-11th grade

(C). OBJECTIVES:

By the completion of this teacher scaffolded WebQuest project, students will learn:

1. How to generate targeted searches on the webs and data bases, identify and gethering the data needed, collect them and organize them;

2. Use spread sheet to analyse and graph the data collected;

3. Use the line fitting theory and method learned from class, to male the best fitting line and generate the equation of the line;

4. Use the best fitting line and the linear equation model to predic the SAT-MATH scores in a specified future year;

5. Use PowerPoint an other  multi-media means to present the results in an interest grabing and professional way;

6. It is a student involved, "learning by doing" way of teaching the math, the technology, and the "new literacy".

(D). NJCCC STANDARD

The contents taught in this project comply with the following NJCCC Standareds:
4.2.12C - Coordinate Geometry; 4.3.12A - Patterns;
4.3.12B - Functions and Ralationships;
4.3.12C - Modeling;     4.4.12A - Data analysis;

(E). VARIATIONS

1. If the wide screen computer projecting equipment is not available, students can use posters to do their group presentations. They can submit the printed slide pages from their PowerPoint files for grading.

2. If time does not permmit the 2nd HS library web search class, this part of web searching will be assigned as home work. Students can use their study period to use the school resources, or use their own time and own resources.
