The Truth On The Weapons The Americans Sold To Iraq
For all of those misguided, unresearched hippies:
Though I can't nessecarly trust the source of this information, I have seen this same info displayed in several places, and some of those were trustworthy. So here it is:
Imported weapons to Iraq (IRQ) in 1973-2002
(Country) : (Total 73-02 US $m at 1990 prices) : (% share)
USSR : 25145 : 57%
France : 5595 : 13%
China :5192 : 12%
Czechoslovakia : 2880 : 7%
Poland : 1681 : 4%
Brazil : 724 : 2%
Egypt : 568 : 1%
Romania : 524 : 1%
Denmark : 226 : 1%
Libya : 200 : 1%
USA : 200 : 1%
South Africa : 192 : 0%
Austria : 190 : 0%
Switzerland : 151 : 0%
Yugoslavia : 107 : 0%
Germany (FRG) : 84 : 0%
Italy : 84 : 0%
UK : 79 : 0%
Hungary : 30 : 0%
Spain : 29 : 0%
East Germany (GDR) : 25 : 0%
Canada : 7: 0%
Jordan : 2 : 0%
Now, just to note something: Is it just me, or were Russia, France, and China the first three countries to object to the war with Iraq? Well, I can tell you this much:
- Most of Iraq's Assault rifles are AK-47's (Which are Russian)
- Iraq's Tanks are also mainly Russian (T-72's I think)
- The majority of material for Iraq's former Nuclear program was supplied by France
- Saddam still hasn't finished paying off quite a few of his debts, and the countries that he owes worry that they won't get paid if he is taken out of power (eg. France, Russia)
- In the late 1980's, the USSR (Russia), France, and China accounted for over 21 Billion dollars in arms sales to Iraq. The rest of the world accounted for less then 8 Billion.
