Wendy's first singing audition, just happened to be live, with an audience comprising of ; billions of TV viewers, a packed to capacity Hawaii entertainment centre, and ten celebrity judges. Fitzwilliam indefinitely made a sizzling singing debut at the 1998 Miss Universe pageant. Her extraordinary voice can be summed up as one of the key agents that led her to Miss Universe victory.

One year later, prepared to relinquish the MU crown, Fitzwilliam delivered a moving & engaging live performance at the MU Presentation show. She performed her first recorded single, "Kiss of Life." The remake of the Sade track, featured Wendy's voice, soaring over solid background music including, but of course steel pan (created in Trinidad & Tobago it is the only acoustic musical instrument invented this century.) The song was a hit and received wide spread airplay in her native Trinidad and Tobago. The accompanying video was also a staple on local TV stations. On her last night as Miss Universe she passed on her duties with "Kiss of Life" strumming in the background.

Now the beauty, who won Miss Universe partly because of her astounding vocal ability, is slated to release a CD. In a recent magazine interview she stated: "My music is my chosen career, and I am not backing away from it. I started working with a production company doing a development deal with Electra Records/Time Warner, but they were into the urban, hip hop sound and that's not me, so that did not work out. I am now with Warner Brothers working on a CD." She has labeled her style as "adult contemporary, soul music with a Caribbean feel, but distinctly Wendy. Thus far she has done live shows at clubs in New York, charity fund raisers and at the Miss Mexico 2001 show. At the St. Lucia Jazz Festival she was beckoned to the stage to perform by Patti Labelle, and at the 2002 St. Kitts Music Festival she shared the stage with international super stars, where she performed seven songs. Watch out now, because she is worth it!!
