LOCAL HUNT SAB GROUPS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Demos and other events are happening all the time across the Midlands. During an average week there may be half a dozen or more events within easy travelling distance of where you live. Weekday events often include demos against shops selling fur, leaflet stalls, laboratory demos and hunt sabbing. Weekend actions are also varied and often attract more people. Checkout the forthcoming events page. Not all events will be listed, contact us for more details. If there`s nothing happening near you, why not organise something yourself? It`s easy!
PRISONER ADDRESSES Write to people that have been imprisoned in the fight for animal liberation.
All of the National campaign groups like Animal Aid, SHAC, and Viva will supply all you need to organise your own demo or stall ie. posters, leaflets, petitions etc. Simply get together with a few friends and demo your local McDonalds or shop selling fur. Set up a pasting table on your high street and collect signatures whilst handing out leaflets. As long as you don`t block the pavement or shop doorway there shouldn`t be a problem. When you`re out on the street educating people in this way, you will very soon meet likeminded people who will perhaps join you the next time.

There are many ways of making a demo or other event effective. Big clear banners and placards make sure everyone knows why you are there. Eyecatching and informative leaflets are essential for getting your point across. Animal costumes are a great hit with the kids and are always good fun. Megaphones and loud voices ensure that people who can`t see you, can hear why you are there.

Inevitably, demonstrations will often attract the attention of police officers. On some occasions, protesters will get arrested and taken away. The safest way to avoid arrest is normally to comply with any direction given by a police officer. Many people manage to protest for years without ever being arrested but you will need to use your common sense in deciding how to behave. If you do have the misfortune to be arrested, you should say nothing to the police apart from giving your name, address and date of birth, at least until you speak to a solicitor. Click here to go to a legal info website that clearly explains the law and your rights. It`s important to remember that we do have the right to peaceful protest and you shouldn`t let the threat of arrest put you off speaking out on behalf of the animals. Afterall, the animals can`t speak up for themselves!
